So? 92-96 have over a dozen recalls. Don't see how we can bash one vehicle when ours have recalls too. Oh, by the way, my tailgate cable failed. Too bad Ford didn't replace it for free.

What a joke, if a guy was lucky he could ask mr goodwrench for the old cables and put em in the glovebox so when the new ones break in ten years you could just slap them on

bigsnag 03-18-2004 05:17 PM

Quote from the story I read. "Last month, regulators said they were looking into reports where tailgates were falling off the backs of pickup trucks without warning. "

That sounds kinda dangerous!!!

When I heard the word 'tailgate', I thought it might have something to do with the optional tailgate warmers I heard they were putting in those GMs- you know, so the guys pushing don't freeze their hands in the winter...:-X04

Never did think much of those cables on any brand - makes one appreciate the the scissors type bars on the 70's trucks! Sometimes older is better! :D

jfrbronco 03-19-2004 08:36 PM

MK, thats a good one(tailgate warmers)-- so the guys pushing don't freeze their hand in the winter!

My father in law was standing on his tailgate when the cables broke (2001 Z71), he was rather happy I called him.

For an item that should get no claims, when you have just 1,000 a bell should go off and when it reached 10,000 lights and sirens should have gone off. Sounds like to me they knew about the problem, waited, and hoped the problem would go away.

Kinda like in Fight Club-

A = Failure probability

B = Number of units on the road

C = Cost of Out of Court settlement

X = Cost of recall

If A + B + C is less than X, then they don't do a recall

Thats what i was thinking since i have watched it just a week ago. A weird movie. But yeah ford has its share of recalls as well.
