when where the engines produced and what where they related too.

from what ive read they were made in th60s and ive only seen one 534 in a 74 F750 i think it was a 750 anyway. I asked about them a while ago from what i understood they were a LARGE FE if im wrong please tell me i had the chance to buy a 477 but ran short of money, I stilll really want one.

These engines were used in the late 1950's large trucks.

The 401 came with the F-850, F-950.
The 477 came with the F-1000 (standard), F-1100 (as an option)
The 534 came with the F-1100

Same for C-series (tilt cab), and T-series (tandem)

Not positive on this one, but I think they may even preceed 1957.

The Super Duty engines were kind of in a "family" of there own. :)

HOLY COW! those are some big cube motors...does anybody know the hp and tq specs on these monsters?

Horsepower..................226 HP @ 3800 RPM
Taxable Horsepower.....54.00
Torque..........................350 foot lbs. @1800-2300 RPM

477 SD V-8
Horsepower..................260 HP @ 3600 RPM
Taxable Horsepower.....65.00
Torque..........................430 foot lbs. @1800-2300 RPM


534 SD V-8
Horsepower..................277 HP @ 3400 RPM
Taxable Horsepower.....65.00
Torque..........................490 foot lbs. @1800-2300 RPM

well the torques prettey good on the 534 but is there any high peformance products you coud get for it.

Nope, these are strictly industrial engines, low compression, low revving high torque...
They are positively HUGE also...

That one is missing the oil pan, that's a Holley double pumper on there, and those are 8x8's(IIRC, might be 12x12's) it's sitting on...
Have fun fitting it any automotive application.

That ain't no double pumper on there, that's a single line Holley, probably around 600cfm.

They do favor the FE design though. Especially the heads. Where does the distributor go? behind the turbo charger looking waterpump?
I've never seen any of these dinosours before. It looks really heavy!!!

IIRC, double pumper means it has an accelerator pump on each bowl... Which that unit does, it's just an oddball industrial application carb.

I forget if the distributor is at the front, or goes on top of the governor at the rear... been a while since I had the tarp off of that thing.

I see, It didn't look like it had a rear pump, but it is hard to tell by the angle of the picture. I stand corrected.

I've seen 534s as late as '82, a lot of small-town fire trucks using Ford cabovers have 534s. Bunch of them still around too.

There are two 534's for sale on EBAy right now.One for $500 running. 534's came with a Holley that was a governed unit with a second set of throttle plates connected to the governor. The Holley was rated at something like 375CFM. I have a Ford 534 Seamaster Marine engine running in a boat. Smooth & dependable but not very exciting, except to know it will still be running for a long, long time.
