2005/2006 lightning

does anyone know how the new lightning compares to the dodge srt10? The new lightning is suppose to be around 500 horsepower and torque like the dodge.:-X01

I heard that they might put the supercooler shot for the intercooler which would boost power by 50... But the motor is suppose to have 500 horsepower and 500 lb-ft torque just like the Ford GT.

right, there is soposed to be a supercooled boost shot for the next lightning. sounds neat if you ask me...torque numbers are 550 foot lbs.! supercooled burst is said to add 50 hp to already 500 but i read in some article somewhere that the 50 hp increase is more like 70 hp...yikes! http://www.svt.ford.com/conceptLabLightning.asp go to link and read under engineering.

Six speed!!!!!!!

Sad new is the Gen3s will probably not be produced until 2006.
I have read that they are redoing the Lightning plant.
So like me, you have to wait.

I heard the Tremec 6 speed will not make it into production.

The Lightning and SRT-10 will be very close in a foot race. I know that they raced the new GT (same motor as the lightning, without the intercooler hp boost) against the Viper and the viper won by something like 0.01 seconds in the 1/4 mile.

I think it depends on how heavy they plan on making the new lightning. (hopefully not as heavy as the new F-150's.

I just wish that Ford would make an engine that could compete with the SRT-10 without supercharging it all the time. Don't get me wrong, I do not like dodge at all, but it looks whimpy to slap a supercharge on and think it is the best. I know if dodge supercharged the viper engine it would waste the lightning.

I think that SVT's goal is to produce a more fuel friendly (12mpg compared to 9mpg dodge) and lighter front end with more performance than the dodge. The SRT10 has not shown any performance other than straight line speed and tire burn outs. The Lightning has always been a more all around performance truck. Dodge knows how to make performance cars (Viper), but I don't think they can compete in the performance truck market yet when they base it off of top speed numbers.

they dont need a supercharger they have a gas hoggin v10.....I think factory supercharging is one of the best things ford has developed in a while....just look at the cobra, they own the streets for around 35k......with the supercharger I think u get better gas mileage and smaller cubic inchs, less weight better handeling.....just my .02

Saurian 06-20-2004 02:51 PM

Cubic Inches Vs. Forced Induction? I'd personally prefer the cubic inches. Less to go wrong, less to fix, less to worry about.

What about Turbocharing a 5.4? How would that do as far as numbers? Or is the 5.4 not capable of being T-charged? Those 3 valve heads ought to be GREAT for it...

the 2005 GT's numbers were increased from 500 hp to 550. i dont know if thats what its been all along and they were waiting till it got closer to leave dodge scramblering to try to keep up or what but ill bet the do the same thing with the lightning. Its nice that FORD finally has some compitition in the sport truck market

GarySS 06-22-2004 02:50 PM

thats the correct answer, all comes down to Corperate average fuel economy

Hopefully the Lightning will still be a "mash and hook" truck like it is now. Sure the SRT Ram has more power and everything, but it has a HELL of a time putting that down at the strip. The Lightning on the other hand is a lead-foot, tire-hooking machine. With that power increase...I really hope it doesn't suffer from the traction problems the Ram has. Throw some fat meat on her...=)

I think they need to offer the manual. I mean...just for those who love it. How can it have "sport" on it if it doesn't have a manual option. That said...with that much power I'd much rather have an automatic, if it can stand up to that power for 75,000 miles. The first sign of rain you'd have to run the lightning home or else you're just gonna spin out across intersections.
