resetting computer on 2002 ranger

Can anyone tell me how to reset the computer in my truck? My check engine light is on . It often flashes when i'm accelerating, merging onto the highway or passing someone, my ford dealer says it's from overrevving, but it comes on too easy . flashes a few times then goes out or stays on........i've had it in the shop three times to have them reset it for me. They told me the next time i'll have to pay. There's got to be something wrong with the shifting in the transmission. It's only got 13,500 miles on it. I think as long as it's under warrenty they should fix it........ any help is appreciated. thanks

You can disconnect the neg terminal on the battery for a few minutes. That will erase the codes. But if something is wrong, the light will come back on. Are you over revving? Seems like it still should be on warranty.

What code(s) are you getting? Did your dealer give you a repair invoice or anything with any information on it?

Pull the code(s) yourself and write them down. Try AutoZone, they pull codes for free.

There is a specific code (P1270) for over-revving or going too fast. If that is indeed the code you keep getting, and you think the rev-limiter or speed-limiter is malfunctioning and/or coming on too soon, then tell your dealer to reflash the PCM.

Do you drive with a heavy foot?
