Snowmobiling in northern Maine
Anybody in the New England Chapter do any sleding up this way?If so,I was wondering how you liked it.I saw a lot of nice Ford trucks with sleds on the trailers and thought of you guys.just curious.

i was up at the camp in straton skiing at sugarloaf went back through rangely theres tons of sleds there

It seems to be a big part of the economy up this way in the winter time.I travel about about 10 miles to work. There is always a buch of trucks going through hauling good sized trailers with sled in them.I'd say 60% of them are Fords. It seems a lot of Ford owners like to ride sleds.I get to see a lot of fancy trucks.lol.There are a lot of groomed trails up here. It's just like an interstate system.:)
|
I jusat bought a sled this year and go to Rangeley all the time. I have an 01 F150 supercrew that pulls a fourplace with ease througgh those mountains.
|
I ride in rangeley, lovell, fryeburg, ..lotta places. My uncle lives in lovell off rt 5. My $8000 2004 Arctic Cat has 120mi on it for 1 day trip....this winter has been terrible.

We seem to have lost a lot of snow up here lately.Unusal for this time of year. There are a lot of trails though. It's just like an interstate system. Each town seems to have a ski-do club with a groomer. They do a pretty good job. It's a big business up here.:)

I have been to Baxter State Park on a snow mobiling trip. It was a great time, but an 8 hour ride from the Boston Area.
Shin Pond Village was the place we went to. |
I sled in Maine all the time , stayed at a new place this year Caribou Cabins
|
Maine has about 12,000mi of snowmobile trails around the state. I've been riding there for about 16-17 years. I have a house in bridgeton off moose pond. I can see people skiing down shawnee peak from the front porch.
|
Not much of a year sledding this year compared to last year ,oh well the snow god did not do his magic thie year maybe next year
|
Yea,the snow has been pretty scarce up here this year.I look for us to get one more storm, lol. It has been a strange year for snowfall up here.I hope you guys still enjoyed your trip up here.Snowmobiling seems to help our economy during the winter months.

The riding in Maine is like no other place me and the wife only got out a few days up there this year 600+ miles in 2 days I can live with that
|
Well well well, looks like there's some fellow sledheads on here....
Unfortunately, my F150 barely ever pulls the sleds (89 & a 92 Polaris Indy 500's one's an SP that has "motor work" piped, ported, bored, shaved) I live right on the trail, and the lake.... my racing friend just got back from up north...took a couple sneek peaks at the new Polaris fusion.....I like the F7 though myself.... MustangGT what u ride? |
downhillpat , looks like you have a little work into that there Polaris must go good
|
Oh yeah, that thing really moves. (the 89 at least keep getting the 2 mixed up) :-X01
I still don't know it's top speed, somewhere around 96 mph was the last high speed I saw. I gutted the airbox, had the carbs bored out to 39.5 mm (dual Mikuni roundslide 38's :-X22 ) a set of wiseco pistons & rods & bearings and a set of DG twins. I run only Polaris red or Klotz oil in it. :-staun |
