Ever do 3,000 rpm tach freak out?

I had just got up to Interstate speeds of around 70 mph and looked at my dashes gauges. It was reading at 3,200 rpm! I freaked a little because it is supposed to be nowhere around 3,000 , usuall 2200 rpm. I quickly but safely got off on the median and slowed down. Before I got to a stop I realized the problem. I was in my 80 Mustang gasser!

Took me forever to get back into traffic on Interstate! Taught me a lesson though to remember what your driving before freaking.

Sorry had to laugh at that :-X24 Done the same thing in my wife car, first I look around for the start light, then seeing the 3500+ rpm driving on the interstate, seems like I should just always drive the truck and not have any worries.

I always have that problem going from an auto trans to manual, go to step on the clutch, and woah it aint there, or reach up to the column to put er in drive and same thing.

Every time I get in my wifes SUV I catch myself sitting there waiting for the glow plugs to warm up....lol

I guess that brings up an interesting question. For a variety of reasons I have red lined my PSD a few times, not for long , but for a few seconds. Anyone feel that this engine is in danger to floor it and hit passing gear and redline it at 3200 for a few seconds? Mine has 25,000 miles.

Oh yeah done the wait to start light thing also.

Been at redline lots of times. No problems yet, except this silly grin I can't wipe off. :-D :-D :-D

I traded a 99 Cobra on my 2000 PSD. The Cobra redlined at 6800...and that 4 valve motor really liked to rev. At least I don't have to switch back and forth between the Cobra and the diesel! By the way, the drag car in my sig reds at 7400. And the PSD tows it like a dream!

Navistar rates it to turn well past your redline. It'll pull 3400 all day long.

something needs to be set straight: you are not redlinling your diesels, you may be going up to the red line but its not redlining ford uses an electroince fuel device that does not allow the engine to redline. its called the pcm or something like that.

The owners manual states that it is possible to over-rev the psd when towing a large load and going down hill. The weight of the load can push the truck past it's rev limiter. Never had it happen but I remember reading it in the owners manual.

yes thats true, but you cannot floor it and redline it.
