SRT beats Lighting for fastest truck
DODGE RAM SRT-10 SETS SPEED RECORD FOR PICKUP
TRUCK The Ford SVT F-150 Lightning was proclaimed the world’s fastest production pickup truck last July, but it’s reign came to an end yesterday. That distinction now belongs to the Dodge Ram SRT-10, which zoomed to an average speed of more than 154 mph—about 7 mph faster than the F-150’s time—during two test runs monitored by Guinness World Records and the Sports Car Club of America. The Ram SRT is powered by the same 500-hp, 8.3-liter V-10 engine that Dodge uses in its Viper sports car. The F-150 Lightning features a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 that generates 380 hp. Both vehicles sprint from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. The new Ram record was set on a 4.7-mile track at Chrysler’s Proving Grounds in Chelsea, Mich. NASCAR driver Brendan Gaughan piloted the vehicle. Last year, he won six NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races in a Ram, and he will make his debut in the Nextel Cup series at the Daytona 500 later this month. The record-setting SRT wasn’t modified for additional power or enhanced aerody-namics, according to Chrysler. Per Guinness rules, it was clocked over a “flying kilome-ter” on two runs in opposite directions made within an hour of each other. Supplied and operated by a third party, the timing equipment was certified to within 1/1000th of a second. The speed of each run was determined using sensors at the start and finish of the measured kilometer. FEBRUARY 3, 2004 PAGE 1 OF 3 |
give it awile till the 05 lightning comes out, then dodge will be 2nd to ford

Don |
It's sort of sad that Dodge's big 500 h.p. V-10 can only outbeat the Ford by 7 mph. As another poster already stated, Ford will get `em next year.
|
i cant believe that the 8.3 liter V-10 only puts out 500 lol
|
yeah i wonder what the 05 lightning will run when it has something like 500 hp? LoL. chevy and dodge will be in the dust for sure.
|
I dont care if the Dodge is 7mph fastr than my Lightning, i like the Lightning alot better, drove and SRT-10 and didnt really like it, would get tired of driving it every day.The Lightning just feels like a better built truck, but thats just mu opinion
|
Isn't the SRT priced at $50,000? At that price, I'll keep my Lightning. Plus, it looks like a speeding brick.
|
I agree with you, They sticker in around 47K,ouch,and you cant even tow with it. now thats pathetic for a pickup

8.3-liter V-10 engine that Dodge uses
in its Viper sports car. The F-150 Lightning features a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 that generates 380 hp. okay here. so we got a 8.3 litre raceing engine to a normal 32 valve truck engine. I will drive a lighting over that any day. Pluss lightnings are slick looking and all black like my nite. the other issue. the last time dodge put the viper engine in a truck, it got about 3 mpg. lightining gets around 12-20 dosn't it? |
