95 Explorer Keyless Remote
 

I need a keyless remote for a 95 explorer and I am not sure which models work with it. I got 1 from a 96 and cant get it to program. The numbers on the back are 3BF87B-15K601-AB & 4BF87B-15K601-BB.
Is this the same as a 95 or is it a different model?:confused:

These numbers aren't anywhere close to the numbers on the back of my remote for my '95. Try checking out remotes on Ebay. They will tell you the numbers and what vehicles they work with.

Any remotes from '93-'97 should work. The ones that don't work are the ones that have picture icons for lock, unlock, and panic buttons. So if yours has buttons that have words "LOCK," "UNLOCK," and "PANIC," then it should work.

It might not work b/c the battery needs to be changed?? Or you didn't get into the program mode correctly. Try again.

EDIT: Just looked at your sig and you have a '99. The remote you just bought will definitely won't work. The only ones that will work is like what I said about the icons on the buttons instead of words.

I got this 1 from Ebay. I thought it was from a 96 but I checked and it was from a 95 explorer. It has the symbols but the guy on ebay said it was from his 95. I have tried a new battery. What are the numbers on the back of a 95? My expedition is a 99 my daughters explorer is a 95.

If it has the symbols, then it's the newer RKE system. It only applies to '98-present Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicles. You got cheated.

Forgive me for resurrecting this thread from an ancient bygone era...

I have a '95 XLT with the RKE keypad on the door. My research tells me that therefore my RAP supports RKE fobs. I don't have the original fobs (bought the X used).

I bought a fob off eBay with the exact same codes stamped on the back as what mason listed above (and he evidently has a '95 XLT). I successfully get into program mode, but it won't accept the fob. I've replaced the batteries, and I've tried cramming all sorts of key combinations. I talked to the local dealer; service says "in 14 years of doing this job, I've never seen a RAP go bad". That implicates a bad fob. I go to the parts counter to cross reference the numbers to make sure this is the right model of fob. He tells me it's wrong. These numbers make it for a Limited Edition. But this runs counter to mason's evidence.

The seller claimed it is in good working condition; I just want to know if there's any diagnostics or logic that y'all could help me with before I go definitely blaming the seller for a bad fob.

There is a TSB out for blown RKE units due to static discharges due bad grounding on the drivers seat rail so your fob may be fine but the RKE unit which lives under the drivers side seat may no longer be paying attention.

Would you be so kind as to point me to post the complete text of the TSB, point me to a URL containing it, or give me the gist of what I need to look for on the grounding problem?

And let me get this straight... the fob doesn't talk directly to the RAP, but there's a module under the seat that has the radio receiver that does the talking to the fob?

ISSUE:
The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system may be inoperative on some vehicles. This may be caused by a static discharge from the seat through the Remote Entry/Keyless Entry (RAP) module causing the RAP module to fail.


ACTION:
Install a metal spring clip on the driver and passenger front seats to ground the upper and lower seat track and replace the RAP module. Grounding the seats will prevent the buildup of static on the seats, reducing the likelihood of damage to the RAP module. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.



SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Using the power seat controls, move the driver seat full travel forward and adjust the height to the full up position. Tilt the seat frame forward (front part of seat in full down position). Lean the upper seat back toward the front of the vehicle.
2. Position the carbon steel grounding clip on the seat track section on the console side of the seat. Refer to Figure 1.


3. Using a standard screwdriver, pry against the floor to seat the clip onto the bottom of the track.


4. Spread a generous amount of Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound (D7AZ-19A331-A, or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M1C171-A) on the upper seat frame track where the clip indent comes in contact with the seat frame. Apply grease in front of the clip (toward the front of the vehicle).


5. Cycle the seat full travel (back and forward) twice to spread the grease the length of the track.

NOTE : IF THE SEAT IS AGAINST ITS FORWARD STOP, AN INCORRECT VERIFICATION OF THE SEAT FRAME GROUNDING WILL BE MADE.
6. Use an ohmmeter to verify that connection is made between the upper and lower seat track rails. Move the seat track to the full front travel position, then move it back 25-76 mm (1-3"). Place one lead of the ohmmeter on the lower seat rail between the two (2) plastic slides, and the second lead on the seat frame track (Figure 2). Any resistance measurement other than an open ensures proper connection/installation.


7. For the passenger side seat, move the seat fully forward and set the height adjustment at its lowest point (this rotates the height adjustment linkage away from the seat track area where the clip is to be installed). Lean the upper seat back toward the front of the vehicle.


8. Repeat above Steps 2 through 6 for the passenger side seat. AFTER COMPLETING STEP 3, TILT THE PASSENGER SEAT FRAME FORWARD (back part of seat in the full up position).


9. Return both seats to their original position.


10. Replace the RAP module, referring to the appropriate year Explorer/Mountaineer Service Manual procedure.


11. Reprogram the Remote Keyless Entry Transmitters, referring to the appropriate year Explorer/Mountaineer Service Manual procedure.


12. Inform the customer that the driver side door keypad entrance code has changed. The new code number is printed on the replacement RAP module.
