My wife moved out took the van had a friends boy friend check exhaust leak now it won't shift into drive untill you get to about 25 and let off of throttle I have changed fluid, filter, vacume modulator, and have vacume at modulator. does anybody have any ideas ? I checked to make sure I did'nt lose roll pin and have tried adjusting modulator according to instructions that came with it. Thanks for any help you might give I don't know a lot about transmissions I have been working on cars for 20 years but never wanted to get inside of these monster's

Steve,

I have a 92 3.0L 2wd so I don't know what help I can give, but I've noticed that the fluid level on these transmissions is critical to proper operation. I can't think that anything that anyone checking for an exhaust leak could have done that would cause the transmission problem you indicate.

Seems to me that I remember a previous post on this forum that mentioned something about the AWD and shifting into overdrive. I'll see if I can find it and refer you to it. Try doing a search on this forum.

Did you get it fixed?

Hi Steve -

Did you ever find out what was wrong?

I have a similar problem with my 93 Aerostar 4.0 AWD. It doesn't shift up as I accelerate until I take my foot off the gas. When I put my foot back down and start to accelerate again it suddenly shifts into the proper gear. Other than I have to work the accelerator things work fine.

Steve:

Check the kick-down cable and linkage. That might have been moved around or kinked when the other guy was mucking around down there.
