1950 f-2

I am about to start redoing my grandpas 1950 f-2. This truck has a 239 flatty with 66,000 original miles and the 4 speed crash box. I am going to put in a h.0 302 and go back to carb. etc. 1st question is, I would like to have a granny gear and overdrive, is the zf my best bet. 2nd is, what rear end would be the best and easiest to go with. I have heard the 68-72 is a bolt in for the f-1, what about the f-2? Thanks, Lee

Welcome to the board Lee! congratulations and good luck with you grandpas truck. I wish mine was that sentimental, as my grandpa is now dead. My 48 was just a childhood dream, finally come true...lol

It would be the same for the F-2 also but you can't use the original wheels. The front wouldn't match the rear pattern but is easily solved if changed to discs.

I apologize, I meant swap rear ends with another 3/4 ton rear end. I dont want to use a 1/2 ton axle. Lee

Welcome Lee;

The 3/4 ton rear end from a 72 f-250, is a bolt in. The swap took
only a few hours to do. But the driveshaft, if using the original,
would be about a inch to long.

Paul.
