Closest Legal Off Roading for SE Mich.

Where does anybody that lives in SE Michigan (Wayne, Oakland, Washtenaw Counties) go for "legal" off roading? Is the closest place the Mounds in Flint?

In process of building up my 86 150 and would like to get out on some trails once completed but I'm weary of travelling too far, breaking something on the trail and needing to tow the thing back. Had a bad experience with an old CJ5 about 3 hours from home once, motor was thirsty for water for some reason...very bad.

Good question. I've been looking for a place to ride dirtbikes legally in SE MI. We had a bad experience at the Mounds when we towed two bikes from Warren only to be told that I couldn't ride my brand new 2001 Suzuki RM125 because it didn't have a spark arrestor. Who puts a spark arrestor on a motocross racing bike? And why would you need one to ride in an abandoned quarry turned state park?

i don't know if this is close enough but after the mounds going north on 75 the next place would be the orv trail head on m61. the state land goes down to estey and north to secord lake

There are seasonal roads downriver and supposedly really far northeast of the detroit area not sure where thoguh. The one downriver is called Heiss road but all it is is soem mud holes thoguh from what I hear.

Also if you go here and look at teh venues part ont eh left it shows some of the places to go
http://www.glfwda.org

or you can check out the link in my sig for trail rides to these and other places like Canada or the Badlands offroad park in indiana for instance.

There are a few places that not actually legal.
Hall Rd and Romeo Plank
Hamlin between Dequindre and Ryan.

Let me know if you need more info.

I've been to the Hall Rd site. Now that they've started to develop it, the local police kick you out. :(
I'm not familiar with the Hamlin Rd site, but would like to hear more.

I've lived in the area since 1985 and never knew that gravel pit existed. I'll have to bring my dirtbike there.
I have lots of rides, which one do you want to see pix of?
We have 7 cars/vans and 2 motorcycles.
My Club Wagon is going to be my tow vehicle for the bikes and Camaros, when we race starting in the spring.
It isn't much to look at. It's a PB&J colored rusty van. :)

I wouldn't take the dirt-bike to hamlin rd. It might be to loud for the trailers next to it.
Pics of any rides, upload them to you gallery.
