exhaust

what is the best exhaust set up for the 4.2 truck? buy a cat back? or just build my own? also what gives the best sound?

horizonhuskies 12-11-2003 05:02 PM

Welcome to FTE equake.

What I have heard is that a 40 series Flowmaster has a great rumble for a v6. I know a lot of people love Borla and Bassani, but I dont think they make applications (cat back) for our 4.2. I also know people put on Gibson, which is what I have. It has a pretty aggressive sound to it IMHO. I personally think cat-back is the best way to go, becuase it is more astheticly pleasing to the eye. Just my 2 cents, Good luck with the exhaust, and keep us updated.

I prefer the Flowmaster systems, but then again I've never tried Gipson.

True duals and flowmaster 40's with 10 x 4 inch tips sounds great.

what size pipe sigma?

And our truck, if you also wants the performance, just an exhaust will hurt your performance, uless you put on intake and maybe a few otehr things on the top end.

sigma 12-12-2003 10:16 AM

2.5 inch all the way to the tips. As far as performance goes, I’ve read all the threads about true duels hurting performance and chuckled to myself. I’ll admit there might theoretically be a slight loss in low end torque, but I never drive around at 1500 RPM anyway. Once the RPM’s come up there is quite a bit more power in my current set up over the SIDO setup I had before.

I would never get true duals unless my truck was jacked up. (just me thought) On my truck, I'd get the 40 series Flowmaster and cut the pipe off directly after the muffler. From there, I would either leave it be, or put a turn down on it.

Depending on where you live might dictate what kind of mod you can do to the post muffler piping

Oh don't get me wrong Garrett, I love true duals just as much as the next guy! I just like the cheaper route! :D You know me!

LoL. No I meant that in Cali your exhuast MUST exit behind your rear axle. Thats all :)

I have 40 series Flowmaster SI/DO on my truck and to me it sounds pretyy good. I have fooled several people into thinking it was a big V8. They were really surprised when I told them it was only a V6. And this was coming from people who had V8's.

I do know several people on another site who do not like the flowmasters on the V6 as they say it sounds too much like a bumblebee. I don't think it does at all.

Then how can they sell Lightnings there if that is the case?

horizonhuskies 12-14-2003 09:59 PM

Because those are factory, and we are talking aftermarket. Did that really need to be asked? Cmon.

after looking for awhile i found a flowmaster cat back system. it would cost me $585 can to buy it it this a good deal?

horizonhuskies 12-18-2003 12:20 PM

I think that is a little high. I found the muffler, 40 series delta flow, 2 chamber, for 65 bucks online. Best shop around a little more.

Heckm I found a borla catback for $427. Thats for a 2001 reg cab.
