5-soeed shifters

Where the heck is everybody? Probably out working on their trucks. Does anyone know if there is a shorter throw shifter for the 4.2 5- speed? I haven't had any luck so far.Btw just ordered jba plug wires for my ride, 9mm blue(truck is white). I figured at 90,000 miles for an '02, it's about time.

What kind of transmissions do you guys have?

travlnman 12-06-2003 04:29 PM

uh? uuuhhh? 5-speed? Heck I don't know ,little help here! anybody?? anybody at all?:-huh

The 4.2 mated 5 speed is built by Mazda. I have never seen a short throw shifter for it. Might be one somewhere, but I've never seen one.
Maybe some of the guys in the Transmission Forum would know some more.

From what I have heard, there is the Hurst shifter that is available for our 4.2L's. But I have also heard that they are very hard to find as they are not readily available. I know one person from another site put one in their truck and had a picture of it, but I can't remember which site it was on and who had it.

Try going contacting Hurst and see if they have one for our truck

Thanks guys, I knew I could count on you. The shifter looks like what I want , but I'll still shop around and see what I can find. The weather just sucked today : cold, wet, windy and just all around miserable, Brian ,you probably got a lot of the same thing. I just sat in all day and read posts. FTE rules!!!!!Oo.

BrianA 12-06-2003 10:39 PM

Yes I did....Rotten weather!
In addition, I had wrist surgery yesterday, so I have been limited in my typing skills (as if I had any to begin with!).

travlnman 12-07-2003 12:59 PM

Well,I hope you will have a speedy recovery Brian. My skills are lacking as well, as evident by the title of this thread and also one for a sticky tranny, not a sticky trany. DOH!!!!:-D

horizonhuskies 12-08-2003 10:33 AM

Sorry Brian, about your surgery, hope all is well!

As far as the shifter, I think having a Hurst is cool, Im just not sure for 250, I think, dollars, its worth it. Will it help THAT much? I would rather put 250 toward a LSD fund, and get the most out of my HP.

Dont get me wrong, I want one, but is it something I need?

Garrett aka the stingy bas.......bass fisherman...LoL

You don't *need* one, but a lot of Mustang guys I know say it's one of their favorite mods. If you run the 1320 a lot then you might knock a very tiny amount of time off your ET. It makes shifting 'feel' better and that's why a lot of guys buy them. Anybody in the Cincinnati area wanna let me drive their truck so I can get an idea of what the F150 tranny feels like? :D

I'm down for that. Cincinnati hasn't been hit yet, but I know it's gonna be a crappy winter. My only car = Mustang = deathtrap when driving on 2 inches of ice covered by 4 inches of snow. 4 wheel drive would be so awesome here, I'm tired of pushing my car out of driveways, parking lots, intersections, etc... because I can't get traction from a stop. That's with 200 pounds of concrete in the trunk :(

My 02 is only a 2x4, the 91 is 4x4 but is sittin right now with a cracked head
