1993 Ranger Manual Transmission Fluid Leak

I have a 1993 3.0L V6 5spd manual Ranger and i have been noticing a slight transmission fluid leak. I am not mechanically inclined at all so I am curious as to what the problem could be and if it should be attended to quickly? Any input on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Welcome to FTE!!!!

There are plugs on the top of the tranny that leak and you should fix it. Check out the link in the tech info post.

Thanks for the quick response Ken. The link for the shift-rail plugs looks like a great place to start.

Could these also be the cause of some fluid that seems to be coming inside the cab of a truck by the base of the shifter or would this be another problem altogether?

that sounds like an entirely different problem

if its comming into the cab, then yes Id bet on the upper plugs. Get a mirror and look up there to verify. you can pull the shifter and its associated rubber covers off. If it just started you might be ok. get the fluid level checked ASAP. I bought my truck, someone had let the plugs leak, plugged them with RTV and it burned up the mainshaft and 1st gear. Thjats probably why they sold it. Anyhow $900 for a rebuild, new clutch kit, slave and master cyl's I had the plastic plugs replaced with the steel ones. Bad point is you have to pull the trans to get this fix.
