Cowboy-Up Hat Holder
Oo. I have been trying to install a Hat Saver (Hat Holder) which is spring loaded.
In my 2000 F-150 Ext Cab 4X4 with the roof mounted center consel (Remote hoder,Sunglass hoder,Temp/Compass) There is no where to really mount it. I took down the Cab light and used one of the mounting screws and replaced the light. Has anyone mounted one of these? Let me know |
I now find that using one of the screws from the cab light makes the fuse blow. This poses a bit of a quandry.
I know there are cowboys out there. doesn't anyone have an answer ? |
I've mounted one in a chevy before, but it didnt have a overhead console. Could you possibly take the console off, and near the rear of it(end towards center of cab). Mount it there, and then replace the console. Having the holder facing back?
Or remove some of the plastic molding trim, maybe in the back if you have a supercab, and mount it there. |
ive seen some that stick to the windows, with suction cups.
i dont have one in my truck though |
I had one mounted in my 92 F-150 but that truck had plastic trim all around giving me several options to mount. Even my Ranger had more options than this 2000.
The roof line is clean, No plastic moldings @ all. The head liner is a one piece, molded, styrofoam backing with an air pocket between it and the roof. The Roof Mount Center Consol is actually held up by plastic clips, No screws found anywhere. If I was able to mount it @ the back of the Roof Mount Center Consol, it would then cover my cab light leaving me in the dark I'm begining to think I may have to drill through the head liner into the roof support to mount this thing. FordŽ is a great truck but NOT a better idea :-X09 |
Not tryin to sound like a jerk or anything, but why not set it on your seat when you aint wearing it? That's what I do. Course mine's just a 6x Resistol, Nuttin fancy. And I got a crew cab.

Seems like the center console would be right in the way where the hat rack needs to go. Any way of attaching the hat rack rails to the console? May seem kinda Mickey Mouse, but doesn't sound like a whole lot of other options with that overhead console in the way. Other than that, on the seat or the suction cup option as mentioned in other posts may be your only alternatives.
BTW, there's LOTS of cowboys and cowgirls here in CA!!! Not everyone is "city-folk".... Daryl:-X22 |
Get some plastic grommets and mount it with the cab light. That way there is no electrical connection.
|
Couldn't you make a harness using straps and simply hang the holder over the back of the passenger seat? No drilling into anything and if you want you can easily move it to another vehicle.
|
Lots of different ways. The problem here is he wants it hanging upside down from the headliner like cowboys do it. To me, having a truck that cant hold my hat well is like a car without a cup holder.

Peppy, you are the first one to understand. Thank you! A hat should never be off the head and resting brim down, thats how the luck runs out of them.
|
Anytime. By the way, I was thinking(danger) you could maybe bend the mounting tab down and screw the holder in at the back window. Might make it right.

Apparently I haven't figured out yet how to put images into my posts.
Go to www.galls.com You're looking for item # VP 178, which is a Vehicle Hat Rack that attaches to the headliner. It looks to be designed for trooper/campaign hats, but may just work out for you. |
