Glass/Paint water marks
I just purchased a 2007 F550 that was a former brush truck for a fire department. It's in great shape with only 56k miles on it. But it has water stains on the glass and paint like I have never seen. I thought these fire guys wash everything to death! The glass has what I would call "water stains", like droplets of water all over the side and back windows - not so much on the front window. I have tried everything - cleaners, lemon, white polish, abrasives, etc. A razor blade created a kind of dust but only took off a top layer. I'm thinking maybe they put a chemical in their water tank for fighting fires and it impacted the glass.
Does anyone know of a way to really clean glass from water marks like this? I ended up putting a graphic on the back window, but would sure like to get the side windows clean before tinting them. The paint is similar. I haven't tried red polishing compound, but the white stuff doesn't do much. Appreciate any help. dg |
Vinegar. Try white vinegar diluted. Increase the strength until you get results. Put a little on a paper towel and do sections.
No good? CLR. Dilute that way down and again, try a small section with a paper towel. I used it to clear our water glasses after 15 years--cleared them right up. Diluted about 1/3 CLR, 2/3 water. |
With the glass....visit a glass shop- they can make you up a polishing kit with the correct compound, the polishing pad as well.
