putting a carb on a 2.9

Hello! I used to be on here a long time ago but I lost my ofice email address and couldnt get back on. That has been a while ago.

Now for the question.

I know a 2.8 intake wont work on a 2.9
Unfortunately a friend of mine did not. He has spent his money rebuilding a 2.9 and now wants to put it into an older truck.

Is there any carbed intake that will fit one of these things.
Someone mentioned a 2.9l Merkur was carbed or had cfi (which you can mount a carb on instead) But so far I have had zero luck locating one to look at it.

Thanks
Bryan

2.9 w/carb

thought about this too.i have a 2.9 with fuel injection issues.everything too rusted and coroded(plow truck)how about a aluminum plate bolted over where throttle body goes and milling top of intake where it says 2.9, drill and tap 4 holes and boring 2 holes for correct venturi diameter. poor mans tunnel ram!!anybody out there think it will work?oh yeah, you will have to pop a hole in the hood for clearance, but an old school mailbox could solve that problem!

One try to put a carb on a 2.9, is to use the 2.6 intake
manifold which had the same intake arrangement as the 2.9.
The 2.8 manifold won't work!
The 2.6 used a DG style of Weber 2bbl carb-- probably the
best choice would be a Weber 38DGAS which is roughly
equivalent to the Holley 2150 2bbl carb. The Weber is a
far superior item though!
One hitch in using the 2.6 manifold, is that four? of the
mounting locations are a tad off; one is 1/2" off. One
could take it to a good machinist/welder and have it redone.
I know it has been done at least once!

Put the 2.9 internals into a 2.8 and grind a new keyway into the 2.9 crank to match the 2.8 crank's timing gear.

INTAKE MANIFOLD

JT, is there a model number on that INTAKE MANIFOLD? Also is that a Ford part or a weber?
