Maximum towing length?
 

I've looked up the towing laws for my state (Arizona) and it says I can tow up to 65'. 2 trailers are ok as long as the first trailer has brakes and the second trailer is under 3000 lbs. (If not, then both trailers need to be less than 28.5' long and towed with a large rig).

My question is:
I interpret the 65' length as Total Trailer Length.
My friend interprets it as Total Vehicle Length (including truck)
A coworker tows a 5th wheel with a small trailer for his sand buggy behind. I'm thinking about doing the same thing with my fifth wheel (only towing a boat instead of a buggy). This coworker says the trailer length is the only thing they measure, and with fifth wheels....the measurement starts at the part of the trailer that is behind the rear bumper of the pickup (NOT from the very front of the fifth wheel). Does anybody know if this is correct? I've e-mailed the DOT here and asked this same question but haven't received an answer yet. Of course, if they do ever answer my question....I'm going to print it out and keep it inside my truck in case I get pulled over.

Thank you for the clarification. Looks like I'll be about 3 feet over length then. Bummer. I HAD to go and buy the longest fifth wheel I could find.........

If the trailer is under 30' you can go to 75 ' Combined length
If over 30' 65'

Anyone know what is indicated in the "Reciprocity" column of this chart? I know what the word means, but does it relate to honoring other states rules, or other countries rules? Rules about driver's license classifications, towing specifications? What?

Generally if a state has Reciprocity with other states, you will be legal in those other states. That is assuming you are legal in your home state with regards to license and towing laws.

It also means that if you get a ticket in a reciprocal state, it will go on your driving record in your home state.
