Bushed roller lifters???
 

From all the reading through various posts it seems to me the biggest weak point with these 6.0's longevity wise is the lifters. Just curious if anyone has looked at the bushed roller lifters as replacements when doing a rebuild.

I know of a shop in Tacoma, WA that on trucks with more than 200K miles on then he will recommend replacing all the lifters.
People I know in the area like him and the work he does.

In principle, bushes are suitable for high loads. I think that these lifters with a bushing have not prevailed because the peripheral speed is too high.
A turbo bearing, for example, rotates much faster, but has very little load to carry.
That is my guess.

We've seen people making it from 400k to 800k without a lifter loss with stock engines. It could be the bell curve, but they tend to be very good at maintenance.

Rebuilding an engine, I would make sure the block was completely clean, use good oil, probably a bypass oil filter, and 5k changes. At the cam, a less aggressive ramp (Colt stage 1 or 2 et al.) and not one that needs higher valve spring rates. I'm fine at 100.

At startup, comments in the forums, and personal experience, show this motor can easily generate up to 100psi base oil pressure. There is a good chance for some time, the oil pressure differential valve opens to bypass the oil filter, so it doesn't destroy the media. That means overnight, when the wear/debris particles have settled to the bottom of the oil pan, they get sucked up and go through the oil system unfiltered. There is no real way to avoid that, this engine or others—so good oil maintenance and maybe a bypass filter.

My cam at 250K was starting to get some heavy wear on the lobes. Not worth the risk to me. Lifters and a colt stage 2 camshaft.

250k is the target Ford had for 50% major work. About normal for diesel pickups.

I see Comp Cams makes cams for the 6.0l now.
