Power windows stopped working
 

2005 F150 Lariat

My power windows stopped working completely, it has happened before i had rolled the driver window down and it wouldn't go back up. After taking the 30A breaker? out and put it back in a few times I got it to go up. Now it stopped working completely, I checked the fuse (in the manual it's called a breaker). I checked the wires going from the truck to the doors and I unplugged the connectors in the driver door to the master switches to no avail. I guess i might have to get a new 30A fuse and try that first or is there anything else I can try? I did notice that after I parked the truck in the barn and I tried the windows again that the ligths in the window switches just blinked when i press them.

Is there a way to get my window backup without having to find the problem first?

Pull the door panel off and apply power directly to the window motor. Connect one way and the window goes down, reverse the polarity and the window goes up.

Clean the switch contacts sometime

It'll come already clean, so should work, but they all are real easy to get out, take into the house, and clean as you wait on supper. I've done mine a couple times, the last time was some deposits on the lock-out switch too. I have a couple other cars with very simular looking switches never need cleaning and are older than the pickup?

Just found the problem! I had mentioned that I checked the wires going to the door, I had just loosened the big rubber boot and pulled it back a little from each direction and didn't see anything wrong. Today i was messing with it again and was holding the window up button while moving that rubber boot with all the wires in it and behold, the window went up. I just cut the whole rubber boot off, it was the big black wire pretty much worn through but it was right in the middle between the door and the truck so not visible when I pulled the rubber boot back. Spliced it and all's good again! Also found the location of the problem with my interior light not coming on when oopening the doors, also a wire that's damaged although i haven't found the exact wire yet, but the lights come on when i pull the whole set of wires. Anybody know which color wire it is?

Drivers door wires are flexed so much that they break in side insulation , Only thing you can do is splice in new pieces - very common .

I cut the rubber boot lenght wise, it still stays in the pockets on each side, i'll tape the rest.

Anyone? I have a Haynes somewhere in a box.... Just need to know what color wire controls the courtesy lights when the door is opened.

First, make sure you're chasing the correct circuit. The courtesy lights can be triggered by any door latch switch (when opened), by the remote entry fob or keypad or the dash interior lights switch.

If it is only the driver's door latch switch that fails to work correctly, the signal from that switch comes out of the door (to the VSM) via a BK-YE wire. Failure of this circuit usually results in a constant "door ajar" indication.

If other options to activate the interior lights fail, it's a different issue.

It won't come on by opening any of the doors, or the light switch but it will come on when I wiggle the wiring harness going into the door.

Each door is a different color.
