What did you do to your OBS today?
 

I pulled the bed off the farm truck. It needs some new fuel lines, some wiring work done, and I want to get a flatbed for it anyway. I don't know if anybody makes "short bed" flatbeds or not but if I can't buy one maybe I can make one.

woah, cool custom short bed dually. That's sick! I installed new taillight bulbs tonight. LEDs even though people dislile them, going to have my own experience with testing the issues they are supposed to cause. 3rd Brake/door light is staying with original bulbs now, just as it seems that's what actually causes the issue. Tomorrow I am replacing the PIP Sensor in the distributor, hoping it will fix my ongoing running issues.

I like the LED bulbs, as long as you look for the ones that put the LED where the incandescent filament is then the lenses still work like they should.

Today I'll be getting after some electrical work; cleaning up some poor splices and patches done in the past. I also have a small coolant leak to track down.

a 1967-1973 or whatever f series, i believe an f150. it was my grandpas truck before he got his 1980 GMC. It had camper special mirrors, I know that. because they are on the GMC now. says ford on them lol.
its a 5 x 5.5 lug ford 9 inch under neath

One day the drum on passenger side energized somehow... idk how it was able to even move its been this way for 30 some years.. anyway... had to pry the wheel off and beat the drum off, yanked the shoes and parts out,.. they looked original and half worn LOL. Shame they couldnt have done more. They had a good life. Kept the adjuster, i play with it sometimes

here is that first one I showed with the topper, i pulled the axle shafts and capped them and put new gear lube in it by jacking one side up and pumping her full of it so the bearings get lube without a shaft. this makes it INSANELY nice to pull with f150. that smelled like melted beaver btw. Yuck

Back again. Tried replacing the headlight assembly, however... due to some major hack job whenever someone had it apart, all I could accomplish are bulbs for now. Next projects are door seals, pins, strikers, then getting the whole header panel assembly nice and refreshed.

do you need new retainer clips?I bought new clips in a bulk bag before I tried to replace the headlights.I actually replaced the black panel behind the headlights, too, because it was so brittle it was breaking on touching it lol

I have new clips, header panel is damaged and some of the headlight bezel hardware is missing.
Where did you get the panel?

i got it with a new grille(a chrome painted one unlike my OE grey) that also came with headlight bezels, the only thing it didnt come with was the retainers foro the headlight and the ford logo for the grille which I was able to transfer. I did need U clips tho, because some rotted out. I had most of the screws without issue from the OE. I got it on amazon but the exact one is no longer listed, i could try to find company name if desired but it ran sub 200 for all that which sucked but that black behind piece was just literally breaking wherever it was handled so it was necessary
the bezels and headlights from different manufacturers REALLY hate eachother, and aftermarket adjusters SUCK,*(I have my oe adjusters on my new headlights) and the 11mm bolts on the bottom that thread into the turn signal i think, those are annoying to access. i put wing nuts on them because i couldnt avoid swearing too much lol

Lol how much gear lube is in that axle?

based on my 5 gallon pale being new when i started and not counting my 8.8 cover and gasket and fill a couple months ago, probably under 2 gallons but definitely over a gallon.

i imagine plenty of room for fluid in this 14 bolt, but the 4.10 gear set is still inside itso that helps displace area so i dont have to fill it wit GALLONS

made these with a drill press a a 4 inch hole saw then used a step bit to get the shoulder diameter of the shaft bolts, and used a metal gasket to make the marks to know where to drill

I used a snowmobile crossing sign. Some strong ass aluminum
Used some RTV on the cap, let one side cure up, then jacked the opposite side up, and thats how i filled it. no way the fill plug would work

let me just tell you, If you had this on level pavement with a nice boat jack like I do(with wheels on the a frame of the tongue, so it can be moved around), it is easierto push than a baby stroller with a small baby in it. A hand dolly is harder to push. unloaded. even with 2656016 or somewhere close to that 10 ply old ass truck tires and the original brake assemblies still there(not seized, applied, just there as rotational mass)
THe trailer is made out of the back end of a 79 c20 with springs that probably meant a >8600 gvw truck my guess, so all the things I Have on it, but unlaoaded, its go to be under 1000 but above 500 , Well, maybe more than 1000 I dont know how much the frame c channel weighs and the steel bed and the ff axle and the steel wheels and the spring packs. maybe over 1k?

Anyway, having no axle shafts makes it THAT cooperative to move, it pulls like a dream even with those larger tires and wider set than my f150, even with no trailer brakes, even with me being a half ton, It can be loaded with a fair amount(1k of garbage for example) and its a trailer, yeah, but its not a fight or anything. proper tires and gutting the brake drum internals would do a good bit to make it even better. im gonna try and get dually rims so i can set the tires inward more so I can have the trailer not be wider than my trucks track, which will help it track very nicely.


i also removed all the glass windows on the topper and replaced them with pexiglass, so i cant bust them but still can see. Also amazing.
