Flex Plate Questions
 

So I'm one step closer to getting everything back into the truck. Today was lifting the assembled engine from from stand to get the spacer and flex plate on the backside of the engine.

I had ordered a brand new ATP-158 184 tooth flex plate to replace the old one - that's my first question. Is this the plate I should have chosen? The old plate doesn't seems to have any external weighting tacked on and neither did the new one.

Once bolted on, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, so I stuck the dial gage on to measure runout. I found that negative to positive, I have about 45 thousandths (0.045") of runout. I'm having a hard time finding out if that is too much, especially given the fact that the role of flex plates afterall, is to flex.

Please chime in if anyone knows if I should be ordering another flex plate and what that plate should be.

Rebuilt 1969 360 with a C6 Transmission

First I am not sure if that is the correct one, but if it's the same size as the original it should work. So you have about .022 thousands. I do not think that should be a problem. Did you measure the run out of the original?

That I didn't do, but I still have it, so I suppose I could bolt it on and see if that was any different. Truth be told, it was 0.030" in one direction and 0.015" in the other for a total of 0.045". Let me slap on the one that was on the truck when I got it and see if what I'm measuring is better or worse than that.

Thank you. Part of me is thinking though, that depending on the manufacturing tolerances, bolting in the torque converter could pull the flex plate flat, or bend the flex plate even more out-of-flat.
