Turbo limiter?

2009 F350 6.4 Crew Cab LB Dually
DPF delete, CAI, +50 hp tune

When towing my 15k 5th wheel through Colorado mountains, I can get to 30psi on the turbo. I make sure I don’t go over that, but would like a way to electronically limit it and ensure I don’t.

Thoughts?

30psi of boost is not an issue. Stock tuning can reach that. You need to watch EGT’s when towing.

EGT?

Dumb question, what’s ETG? Do I have to just manually do this or can I get a limiter?

Egt’s are your Exhaust Gas Temps. That temp you need to monitor when towing

That and your oil temp. Oil temp should never be more than 20-30° higher than coolant temp.

EGT temp

How do I monitor the EGT temps?

If you are running a tuner, then you need a monitor.. Many places make them.

Banks makes an idash that will be a plug and play in the OBD port. Then you can monitor your coolant, oil and EGT temps. My 6.4 would pull 40 psi all day long. 41 PSI is the cut off using factory programming.

My coolant temps would run 196 or so unloaded and around 220 heavy towing cross country. Clutch fan kicks on high at about that temp.

Oil temps hovered around the same.

Trans temps, I tried to always stay 210-220, but 230 for brief periods was ok.

EGT or exhaust gas temp. Since the motor was made for emissions, from the factory, a 1300 F EGT was a normal temp. Don't exceed that.

Best advice I had always followed was when towing less than 10K I would run a mild tune. Anything over that amount was in stock power levels. Never lifted the heads and then had issues.

I would tow cross country in mine.

Thanks!

Fantastic information, thank you!!! I will look for that Banks.

Mine retained all the emissions components. So my tuner was the Banks 6 Gun.

I used that since it retained all factory safe features and was emissions compliant.

My over all fuel mileage was 11.5 mpgs over the life of the truck.
