Alternator not charging, wiring help?
So my truck is running on battery only currently. The truck has a new alternator, the back of it is magnetized. I thought the wiring might be wrong based on the condition of the wires in the rest of the truck and I was comparing to my bosses 66 mustang alternator. I used google to confirm that at least a few other people out there have the alternator wired up like the 66 mustang. Before you tell me how off base this is I would like to remind you Ford was still using a lot of components 12 years later including the alternator and voltage regulator.
Anyway I accidentally let the magic smoke out because it turns out that the orange wire isn’t Hot but was actually a ground and so I put power directly to the ground :-jammin. Here are my questions, the black wire is actually power and is spliced to a yellow/black wire. This looks like a factory crimp, the fusible link was right on the starter solenoid and now the truck is dead so I assume I have an ammeter somewhere. Would the link have protected the ammeter as well? Is the tan wire the field wire? what information do I need to find the correct wiring diagram for this truck? This all started because it isn’t charging whatsoever. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...4888606eb.jpeg The white wire is the ground https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...0c94f105a.jpeg Here’s the splice from the power wire |
