Is this a Good Deal on a 428 ???
From Seller:
The engine originally came out of a 1966 thunderbird. I have owned it for about 5 years. I purchased it for a future Cobra kit project that I was never able to start on. It has all been tanked and manifluxed. There are no cracks. What I have for sale is. 428 block. standard bore no damage 428 crank never turned and clean 428 rods with cast pistons flexplate and harmonic balancer Oil pan with baffle in very good condition. Price $1200.00 firm Sounded kind of high? Is this a fair price? |
If the ad is 100% truthful then it is a great buy. He will sell it quickly at that price. Only becasue people are looking for matching numbers blocks in good shape for their 428 car restoration.

This be a good swap for a 360 in a truck? I guess I wouldn't use the pan or pistons tho.

It will bolt right in. It would be cheaper to find a 410 or 428 crank and make a 410 out of your 360. If you run across a mirror 105 block you could have it sonic checked and have about a 50% chance of being able to bore it to 4.13" and make a 428. Like I said, its only a good price becasue people in need of a certain casting will pay the big bucks. The longer stroke of the 428 is where the difference comes in and not so much the bore. Some people question if the slightly longer stroke is worth the $500 crank. They have a good point in my opinion.

1200.00 is a heck of a good price. I'd hone it, balance the rotating assembly and put it back together. Measure the cylinder taper of course, but this seems to be a very good price.

What is a good price for a locked up 429 police interceptor engine out of a 71 LTD?
|
Better ask that in the 385 series forum. We are all into the other big block.
