Lets see your Rear Power Connectors
 

Hi All,

I am wanting to run a high current (50+ amp) power lead to the rear of my F250 to charge the LiON Batteries in my bumper pull Travel Trailer via a DC-DC Converter in the trailer. Planning on using a relay controlled by an upfitter switch with low gauge wiring to the back. General wisdom says Anderson Connectors are the best connectors to use in this scenario, but I am drawing a blank on how to / or where to mount the vehicle side connector and what it will look like when done.

Has anyone else done something similar?

When I did that I zip tied it up behind the bumper so it didn't hang down, but was a little difficult to plug in. I didn't use it that often so it wasn't too big of a problem

Have you looked to see if there are Andersen brackets available?

I don't have any pictures, but you can mount the anderson connector right under the bumper or beside the trailer hitch. The connectors have the 2 holes in them that you can use to bolt them up or screw them in. This is the method I've employed to connect my winch on my OBS Fords. Keeps it tucked up and tidy.

There are some brackets available on the market but they are mostly flush mount so unless you plan on cutting a hole in your bumper, probably not a great option either.

I mounted mine to a small piece of 1/2 thick poly sheet with two slots to hold the U bolts in place and mounted it on the hitch.

A few follow-up questions
Did you run your ground all the way up front, or attach to the frame in the rear?
What size anderson plug is that and how much current are you pulling?

I was thinking of 60 amps through a Cole Hersee 12VDC Continuous Duty Solenoid, fused through a 2AWG wire from the Engine Compartment. I have a 2020 F-250 7.3L w/Dual Battery system, not sure when I will hook up, terminal block or battery post (still need to investigate that).

I use mine for a 10,000 pound winch on my flat bed trailer and I wanted to make sure I had solid connections so I ran my ground all of the way up to the battery. The positive side runs through a 300 amp breaker that I normally leave tripped (there is a test button to trip it) so the line is not live most of the time. The breaker is mounted right below the hood hinge on the drivers side (not much room to mount anything in these engine compartments).

Where did you buy that?

I/we use Anderson connectors for everything.......
Trailers, battery jumpers, winches. boat trailers - you name it.
We use the the 175 amp connector almost exclusively for compatibility. You can get the basic connectors and then order the terminals for the size wire gauge needed.
