4 barrel carb for 292?

Just got a ecz-9425-b intake manifold for my 292. What 4 barrel carbs do you like to run?

The Summit branded carburetors are about the best value available.

I was looking at those. Do you know who makes it for them? I've heard they have a lot of holley parts.

I think Holley actually makes them. It's based on a Holley 4010.

Are you replacing the stock 2 barrel? I was curious if we could throw a four barrel carb to increase fuel flow but wasn’t sure if it’s possible.

I’m brand new to this engine as well as Fords.

Thanks in advance!

Assuming that the engine and fuel delivery system is stock, you are not going to increase fuel flow with a 4 barrell and there is no reason that you need to.

What a properly tuned 4 barrell can do is increase economy while also allowing for a little more power potential because of the extra cfm and the secondary metering, allowing for a better calibration of the fuel curve. But the key is properly tuned.

Excellent info, I’m still learning al of this. Sounds like I can now look for a good 4 barrel EFI system. Looking to build a healthy and reliable engine for daily driving. Much appreciated!

I am using it to replace the 2 barrel. I had to get a new intake manifold for it. Im not using it with the expectation of increasing flow. For that I would need to add a blower. Im looking more for better fuel economy and a tad bit more power. I ended up going with an edelbrock 500cfm and from what I have read, people seem to have good results around that cfm.

Also, welcome to FTE. This place is a wealth of information.

So far I’ve got nothing but great replies and help! Nice to not have to battle the, “why didn’t you search”, or “what are you new?” Intro.

I’ve always wanted to convert an old engine to EFI. Thanks again for your help!

What is your 292 in or going in?

I have a 1962 f250 that came stock with it

I'm about to put on the new manifold and decided to repaint the valley pan and valve covers as well as new gaskets. Any pointers? It's been a while sine I have done anything like this...

l always take a lot of pictures and go slow and make sure l seperate all the hardware so l know how to put it back together

charliemccraney 07-20-2020 08:00 AM

Don't overtighten the bolts. The specification for the valve cover and valley pan bolts is something like 2 to 2.5 ft/lbs - check your manual, get one if you don't have one. Very easy for a ham-fisted mechanic to overdo since they are 5/16" hardware.
