98 ranger

I have a stupid questions. I'n new to a ford truck. Where can I go to figure out what I have. Like example my tires are 265/75R15's and other rangers I've tested had the 235's. What package do I have? Is there a place I can go to find all that info out?
Another question does my truck have 4 wheel or 2 wheel ABS?

Thats all I have now. Soon it will the only vehicle I drive since I'm storing my car for the winter and I'm sure more questions will come up :)

I can quote my window sticker from my 98. I told them I wanted every available option and I believe it has every one..

Preferred equip pkg 867A- $2745.00- XLT trim, xlt group, sliding window, luxury group, AC, cruise/tilt, anti-theft/remote entry, PW/PL/power mirrors.

3.73 Axle LS $270.00, your door sticker on the drivers door inside will indicate a axle code that tells you which axle you have, I dont know the codes offhand.

Off road pkg $395.00-fog lights, 16" wheels, Bilstein shocks, "off-road 4x4" sticker. I dont think you have that if you have 15" wheels. My sticker lists skid plates as std eqiup.

Individual options were $60.00 pivoting back windows, $50.00 leather wrapped wheel, $135 dual media radio, $500.00 ABS, $235 2-tone paint, $550.00 4L V6, $1130 AT. I bet the door sticker or VIN indicates if 4wheel ABS is present but i am not sure.

grand total 23315 MSRP, after 1654 in "package discounts". I paid 21K.

I think its a bit unusual to have 265s, maybe a previous owner put them on? I do remember seeing one new with big tires (265s I think) on the lot when I bought mine back in 98 it was a reg cab.

My brother had an XLT without the 867A package an it was pretty spartan, I think the power outside mirrors are a indicator if you have it, I dont think they came as an individual option..

My '98 came with the 265s as part of the option package:

My 98 came with 265s as well. You have a very sharp truck. The Goodyears look great on her. :-X04

Rockledge mine is almost like yours except for power window/lock group, anti theft/remote entry, bucket seats. My axle is the 3.73LS and the 5spd auto. I have to find out about the ABS code B?

Rockledge,
You state that your Ranger came from the factory with 265/75/16? I got my 98 new with the Off Road Package and it came with I belive 235/70/16? I have since upgraged to 255/70/16. I would love to install 265 but I looks as though they might rub on the front. Also what about the speedo? The 255's did not throw off the speed much at all? Also do you have a picture of your truck more close up with the 265 on?

My Ranger came with 265/75/15s ...I'm not sure if it was a factory-installed or dealer-installed option ...the speedo was calibrated as part of the option package.

Check out the pics of my truck by following the "Ford Pics" link in my sig...that should give you an idea of the clearance.

I've never had a problem with my tires rubbing, even with a full load....

Also, I'm not absolutely sure, but I believe that all 1998 Ranger 4x4s came equipped with 4-wheel ABS.

mine says the 265's right on the door sticker so It must have been a factory installed option.

265/75/15 or 16?

Are you both saying 265/75/15 or 16 inch wheels?

15s not 16s

rellik74 10-17-2003 08:06 AM

I have 265 75 16s on my 98, off road pack. the tire on the drivers side rubs in heavy offroading other than that they work OK. I am runninf sport kings.

I think the bigger tires lowers MPGs

No Sir. My 98 XLT 4x4 Stepside (4.0, 5sp-man) came with rear wheel ABS ~only~.

FWIW.

265/75 tires WERE a factory option on 98 Rangers. However, YES they only came with 15" wheels and they did not come on the Off-Road Package trucks. The reason the Off-Road trucks have 245/75s on them (which seems confusing) is that they had larger wheels to make up for the difference. So the overall diameter is the same between the trucks with 265s and the ones with 245s. Everybody follow that?

Weird..I know. As far as ABS is concerned...Ford did offer standard ABS some years, optional others. I guess they were trying to decide if it was cost effective or not. To check, look under your hood behind the battery. The 4-wheel ABS trucks have a bunch of brake lines running off a valve right there above the wheel-well behind the battery.

Thanks for the info WX. :-X22

I think it also is confusing because, at least in the late 90's, Ford was offering the different Ranger models (Basic, XL, XLT, etc.), then you had the different option packages to chose from, which overlapped with each other to a large degree, and then there were the "line item" features that you could add pretty much across the board, so by the time it was all said and done you couldn't (and still can't) really tell which model Ranger has what features and options.
