i got my 04 STX RC from CarsDirect and i paid $22,900 with taxes i got the following options:

Is it me, or is this A LOT of money to be spending on a half ton truck? My God, those prices are outrageous!!!!

I guess Ford did do the right thing by themselves with this new design, it just appeals to an entirely different type of buyer I guess.

I'm glad you guys feel so good about your purchases, but in all honesty the only way I could bring myself to part with more than 30 grand for any truck is if it had dual rear wheels and a diesel engine- and at that point I'd be seriously asking myself if I really need either-but for more than 30G's it better have both.

With the sole exception of the F150 Reg Cab XL with 7700lb payload pkg, none of these vehicles offer a whole lot of "truck" so to speak, their more like SUV's with 5' pickup beds attached.
By the time your done with the Super cab or Screw, and add the 4wd, and almost every option available, theres not much GVWR left over for much else. Add the 4 or so passengers you buy the truck to seat, and your probably looking at no more than 5-600lbs left over for payload/tongue load - ouch!

WAY too much for so little "truck" IMO- but again I realise it takes a certain type of buyer to be willing to pay so much for this type of vehicle, it's a winner for Ford no doubt...at least it's not a Titan :D.

Just though you might want a truck buyers perspective on this- but maybe not.

I'd have to disagree Sinister, except for the price part....30g's is definately alot of money. What I don't get tho is when you say these trucks don't have a whole lot to offer and that they are like SUV's. The Ford F-150 out does every 1/2 ton truck out there and all previous models also. It wouldn't be in Fords' best interest to build a truck that doesn't get better(towing, payload capacity, comfort, etc..)every year. I think one thing you have to remember is that this IS a 1/2 ton truck. I would assume that most people buying a 1/2 ton truck in any of the better trimlines(STX, XLT, FX4, Lariat) are daily drivers and only use the truck for a truck every now and then. Anyone needing a true workhorse is either getting the XL w/heavy payload pkg or a Superduty.

Granted thats true- and it's why I said "This truck is made specifically for a certain market"- the one you yourself described.
And it is doing very well. It is a well made pickup truck- the best 1/2 ton ever by far- but it still has weight limitations- the more weight it carries from body, drive, and option configurations- the less truck there is left over for what trucks are typically used for-but again, for the customers to whom this product is marketed that dosent matter much. It's definately not a mini van.

Im absolutely positive that there are a good many people who would be willing to pay MORE for this truck than a comparably equipt one ton diesel, but to my way of thinking you'd be getting ALOT less truck, and one which costs Ford ALOT less to make which = much bigger profits btw.

I paid $300. over invoice. MSRP was $36355. and invoice was 32135.20 so my cost was 32435.20 plus tax. There are no rebates on Screws but they have low rate of 1.9 to 3.9%.

I paid D-plan (A-Plan lite! This is for dealer employees and family). truck stickered at around 38,800. I paid $32,217 plus tax & tags.

Sinister, I agree as well that it takes a special breed to purchase one of these bad boys, and the price of this truck is next to outrageous... for a truck. But you are getting a lot more than just a truck for your money. Not only is this one powerful truck with a heavy payload capacity (6850# for mine), but it has features that make it the baddest truck ever made. 300hp and 365 lbs torque is nothing to laugh at from a gasoline engine. This powerful engine, the smooth ride, quiet cabin, and interior ammenities make this the most exciting truck I have ever driven.

It has a nice sound system, full instrumentation, A/C, power windows, shift-on-the-fly 4wd, and the coolest interior ever put into a truck. It even has weight sensors in the seats to adjust how fast the air-bags deploy, and how fast the seat belts lock depending on the weight of the occupants. It has the coolest little features most people wouldn't even notice. How many of you have pressed the cigarette lighter in with the truck off? It won't come back out, and actually locks until the key is turned on. All these simple little features add up to one very well thought out interior.

And the 4wd capability of this truck is phenominal. I've driven older F-150 4wd's. This one outperforms them by far. My dad's first new truck was a 75 F-150 4wd with a 460ci engine. This new F-150 would hand that truck it's butt in every way imaginabe. But that truck lived for 15 trouble free years. If this one lasts that long I'll be more than happy with the price that I paid for it. If not, I'll jack it up, mod the hell out of it, and take it to Badlands (local 700+ acre 4wd playground) :D

For those just wanting a truck to haul stuff in, I recommend an old F-150. If you want a truck you can haul the family around in as well as other stuff, and a truck that will show those LS1 Camaro boys they ain't all that bad, get a new F-150.

I am a bit biased being one who paid 30k for one, but I can see where you are coming from. If I just wanted a truck for it being a truck, I would have hunted down another 75 F-150 with a 460 in it. For being all truck, that one was hard to beat.

Your right about the high price of trucks. I have a 4x4 supercab Lariat on order as we speak. I would rather drive this truck, even if I never put anything in the bed, then anything else. I like the way it looks, and it makes me feel good. I could get a Volvo wagon or a BMW roadster for around the same price but that just aint me. I've had 3,000 lbs of bagged concrete in my 2001 F150 super cab with the ass end bottomed all the way out ( really should have made two trips but the guys at the lumber yard said the truck wouldn't move with all that cement on there so I had to do it) but thats not something I do everyday. I'm just a truck guy and as long as Ford keeps making them I'll keep buying them, unless I hit the lottery then I'll but two and a super duty to boot. ;) Oh yea, my new trucks MSRP is $36,655 and I'm getting it for $32,449 less the rebates or financing.

Up here in Canada I just got my quote yesterday and being an X plan participant this is how it worked out.....Full load lariat screw,mono paint retail $50,860.00 ,X plan pricing $43,805.00. Taxes extra 14.5% in British Columbia.
