Help 95 F250 dies
 

I’m having trouble with my truck and don’t know what the problem is.

4wd 1995 F250 with 460 E40D. When I bought the truck, it was having trouble shifting. A shop replaced the shift solenoids and the computer. Shortly thereafter the instrument cluster was rebuilt because speedometer had failed (and was causing the transmission to not shift again)

Periodically the truck wouldn’t start. I took it back to the place that installed the computer and they couldn’t find anything wrong. I don’t know if this was a problem before the computer was replaced.

I replaced the battery thinking that might be my starting problem. I don’t drive the truck a lot. Mainly around the property and sometimes to the store. Mostly under 20 miles.

It appeared relatively trouble free until I took it on a hunting trip about 350 miles from home. I made it about 50 miles from home and it died going up a steep grade. The engine would turn but not start. A few minutes later it fired right up. This happened several more times in the trip. It seemed to happen most often when I was pushing the truck hard up a grade but not always. Keeping the RPMs low (1500-2000) seemed to significantly reduce the frequency of problems.

Other oddities on the trip that may or may not be related.

Every once and a while I would get a whirring noise from the front wheel(s). I could back up 40 feet and the noise would stop. I assume this is the automatic hub engaging.

Sometimes at startup the ABS and check engine lights would stay on (like it hadn’t actually started but the engine was running). I could clear this but turning it off and restarting.

There aren’t any codes. Thoughts??

You gotta check everything haha!

I would check your fuel pumps first just cause it's easy.

And you're sure there's no codes?

I ran the codes again and I get
565 and 10 sometimes but it doesn’t idle rough or have the check engine light on.
the problem is that everything is fine (spark furel etc) until it dies and while I was on my trip I didn’t have any tools. I think I can eliminate the fuel pumps because it happened with both pumps. I can’t seem to recreate the problem at home, maybe I need to be driving for a long time or something else.
