D3TZ-16720-Y .. Trailer Special Emblem -Right/Left is the same / Marked: D3TB-16098-AB / Obsolete

1973 F250/350.

TYPE 8 in pic: 1974/76 is slightly different (D4TZ-16720-F) /// TYPE 9 is 1976/79 Econoline, 1977/79 F150/350, 1978/79 Bronco, there is only one mounted on tailgate or back door (Econoline).

btw: Ebay seller listed an invalid part number (marked ID number is D4TB-16098-AA) and the wrong applications (it's 1974/76 only).

What made a truck a Trailer Special or a Camper Special? Obviously, heavy duty stuff but exactly what?

This may not give you a definitive answer, but it's good conversation. You might need to dig up a dealer brochure from the 70's for details. I'm sure, as one of the posters said below, things we take for granted today as standard; power steering and brakes, heavy duty cooling, sway bars, trailer/camper light wiring connections, etc.

The Standard Catalog of Light Duty Ford Trucks (krause.com - ISBN: 0-87341-411-3) has a list of all the parts that make up a Camper Special (1965 and later), Trailer Special (1973 and later).

I've typed the list of parts for 1965/66 F100/250 Camper Specials several times in the past, but this book is packed away...and it's now out of print.

My dad always bought the camper special F250. I recall it had the better engine options of the year, beefier springs to allow for a heavier load, heavier disc brakes, heavier duty tires for the increased GVW, maybe oversized radiator (?) trans cooler, stuff like that. He was a mechanic, and did use his trucks to haul stuff, so he valued those "go not show" kind of options.
