Back into a SD..Again
Hey Guys,
Getting ready to pick up an 04 with 66k. Have only had diesels and a 6.2. Anything I should look at or do for the 5.4? Its a 1 owner, seems to be good to go all around. It's a lifted FX4 with 35's, not sure on the gearing. Thanks |

Nice looking truck---I'm guessing you've removed the For Sale sign by now? :)
If you can't verify the plugs have been changed around 50K miles I'd plan on doing that soon---following a good procedure and using a torque wrench would assure a job well done. I'd flush the transmission according to Mark K's tutorial but I hate replacing those so maybe that's just me? :) Or course fuel and air filter, oil change if that's not been done according to the recommended interval. If you have access to a good A/C guy maybe have him/her check the refrigerant charge so that doesn't prematurely crap out on you. Otherwise drive it like you own it and happy motoring! :-X22 |
Drain a small amount of coolant into a clear plastic or glass jar. Look for particles and color. When was the last coolant service?
Check the brake fluid reservoir. When was it flushed? look for even tire wear. |
That a clean truck. Nice find. (speaking from a salt belt experience buying trucks... you still have rocker panels!)

Clean Superduty
Got it home yesterday. Seller said it's been garage kept and only seen rain and salt a couple times. Thanks for the input. Will be contacting the dealership it was serviced at then focus on the maintenance stuff.
It's darn near a replica of my previous 04, minus the 6.0. It was an easy deal to work with good communication and mutual respect. My faith in humanity is restored for the moment. - Thanks https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...f0a43baeaf.jpg |
Very nice truck, congrats and have fun driving that beautiful beast.
