Playing CDROMs and DVDs through Synch3 audio

I tried searching and didnt find anything related. My Domestic Supervisor is going to borrow my 2019 Lariat F250 for a 20+ hour drive, and she wants to do audio books on the drive. Can I get an ordinary CDROM / DVD drive with USB connection, connect it to the truck USB, and play her audio CDs? I would have just tried it, but I dont have a CDROM drive like this and will have to purchase one. Has anyone made this work?

I've never tried, but CarPlay (and I assume Android Auto) support playing audio books. They should be able to play any audio books they have loaded on their phone when connected to the USB.

Got that, no brainer there since we use Pandora and Echolink on the phone all the time. The problem is, the local library does books on CDROM. To use the phone, we would have to "rip" the audio book to the phone, which technically is a copyright violation.

Whos going to catch you?

There's no device drivers for a CDrom, only way is to rip them to MP3 and put them on a USB stick, or go the phone route. Do they not play in the trucks CD rom? Or are you the lucky owner of a 19 and dont have one?

Hi alabamatoy,

I think you are over-complicating here: https://www.lifewire.com/is-cd-ripping-legal-2438422
As long as you use that copies for the time period you're renting the CD from the library, it's still a Fair Use.

* I'm not a lawyer, but would use the same tactic.

Not cheap but can be done

Easier using a player with a bluetooth output, then select the player as media only and you will also retain hands free from the paired phone.
