New member Intro - Keeping It In the Family

Hi, new member here and working to get my post count up to 5 for all the features. I just obtained my second ever 2001 f150. The first I bought new and it was a King Ranch. I sure do miss it, it was a great vehicle. This one was my father-in-law's, but he passed and so it is ours now. It is in very rough shape, but the engine is strong. Granted, it is a 2004 or 2005 5.4L. I don't know what was wrong with the original. Anyway, I am trying to get it in working order without sinking thousands of dollars into it. I don't know how successful we will be, but if we can keep it reasonable then we will for sentimental reasons. Maybe in 6 years the oldest kid can have it as a memory of his grandpa.

Welcome to FTE Auzlin, I admire your quest to keep the truck alive. Spend as much money on the truck that you can afford, and I guess preservation of itsʻ current condition will be the most important aspect right now. Keeping it sheltered from the

elements will naturally prolong itsʻ life span. FTE will be a great source of information for you and your family.

Thanks khadma! It was a Colorado truck, so the body doesn't have a bit of rust on it. However, brining it up here to MN will take care of that fairly quick if we are not careful. Fingers crossed we can protect it and do it justice. If nothing else, it will be an fun vehicle to start teaching the kids the basics of taking care of your automobile. I missed the room and simplicity of working on an American truck.

I have a 1996 FSB, Full Size Bronco that I want to keep in the family. Mostly for my now 27 year old son, we had this truck since he as about 7 years old. I plan to park the Bronco as soon as the 2021 Broncos start being sold. I plan to buy a new Bronco

mainly because of all the hype (I guess Fordʻs marketing strategy is working). Keep those memories alive!

Sounds like you have a good plan or the truck. The folks here can help you out with stuff. Welcome aboard!

Thanks everyone! I was able to pick up a $361 donor truck today. 1998 F-150. There is a hole burned in the floor that turns bright orange when driving, and it won't go over 53mph, but it made it home so I can strip it. Wheels/tires, steering wheel, steering column, dash, speakers, door panels, front seats, and bed liner. I figure that I saved quite a bit of time and money considering the leg work I was putting into salvage yards the past few days. This was done with one fell swoop and I couldn't be happier. The neighbors on the other hand, well, they are worried about my driveway becoming a salvage yard, lol
