Question for you 48 to 52 owners

I was wondering if there is one symbol that is synonymous to those year trucks regardless to model size like the front hood emblem of the 53 to 56 F series.

that's a good question? I know the 48-50 has the monkey grille and it is different badging for the front hood compared to the 51-52

Great question, John.
As far as a symbol or badge I don't think there is one.
As far as an outwardly visible feature, about the only things I can think of that are shared among those five model years are the cowl flap, front and side windows, and doors.

The one thought I can think of, and it's kind of odd. Ford used the same "FORD" for the panel between the hood and grill for '48-50, skipped '51 and then again used them for '52. I have always wondered why they did that. Maybe someone found a big box of them in a warehouse some time in late '51 and company execs wanted them used up.

I'll agree with the saggy door handles. That or, they shared the same hub caps?

Ah, but the tailgate changed slightly in, I think, mid '49 or '51. The latches were moved below the top tube. (Also I think, not quite sure of the exact change)

The tailgate latching change corresponded with the bed redesign in mid-'50 to the flat panel side style.

Well, there you have it folks. Proof of the theory that the 53-56 trucks are the best!}>

The F-1 (and up) badging is unique to that era.

I thought of something else.
48-50 had the open crank starter hole in the lower grille, and was a knockout hole in the lower valance of the 51-52.
So you could hand start these 48-52 trucks, but wasn't an option on the higher compression 53-56 trucks.

I plan on bringing the crank handle with me to the Central Penn Truckstock later this year and we can all give it a try.
I know you have to be very careful when using a tool like that to avoid breaking a wrist. It sure won't be a "Hold My Beer" event.
