Real World MPG for 2019 Ford F150 XLT 3.5

Shopping for a new truck. Researching MPG on Fuelly.com for the 2019 3.5. The MPG looked ugly. :-X15

What are 2019 owners of the 3.5 getting highway vs. Combined?

My 2013 3.5 gets about 20 ish strait highway Vs. 17Ish combined.

Then the computer may fib a little and add 2 or 3 mpg above what you're actually getting. Some would use the computer, some do it by hand.

I'm a hard-core hypermiler and my 2012 F-150 with the V-8 could easily get 24 while the new 2016 F-150 with the V-8 barely got above 18. I suspect the shell on my 2016 severely impacted my gas mileage.

The '13 had a 19.1 lifetime avg @ 147k.
The '17 has a 21.2 lifetime avg @ 58k.
I do a lot of hwy driving.

You pick up some from the engine/transmission and some going from a steel body to an aluminum body.

I know from my personal experience logging the mileage since our truck was new that the MPG is all over the map depending on where you're driving, how you're driving and what (if any) you're pulling. I can post the graph if you'd like, but it goes from a low of about 15 MPG up to about 21 MPG. The average is around 18.5.

The computer guestimator was about 5% too optimistic (about 1 MPG too high) until I fixed it with ForScan. Now it's pretty close.

Are you in a '17+ 3.5 V2 with a 10speed tranny?

It's the one in my signature. 2015 3.5 EB. Crew cab with the long box.

A '17 has the same setup, a '15 does not.

Obviously, daily driving at 80mph vs. 65mph will make a difference in MPG.

I've read all the EPA ratings and forums. I was hoping to hear 2019 Ford owners highway MPG.

Meaning, I'm really trying to figure out how much better the MPG is on the 2019 2.7 vs. 2019 3.5.

Fuelly is probably the most unbiased source for information on this, certainly better than forums, asking your neighbor, or the salesbro at the dealership.

I just bought a 2019 STX crew cab long bed with the 3.5L this past weekend. I've put 350 miles on it so far, haven't had to fill it up yet. The trip computer is telling me I am at about 19.6 mpg combined from the drive off the lot, and this morning it told me I got 22.6 mpg on my way into work.

This is mostly highwayish miles at 55-60 mph. Not much stop and go, even when I'm off the highway.

When/if you monitor your actual usage, you will most probably find that the trip computer is consistently about 5% high, or roughly 1 MPG better than actual. If you poke around on the forum, there is a way to fix this through the console. You need to put the console into diagnostic mode, and adjust the "AFE Bias" to reflect the amount of the error. AFE Bias is set to 1000 by default, and reducing the bias to 950 is what I've got mine set to now.

I'll keep that in mind. I plan on tracking it with the fuel pump values here for at least a little while to understand where I'm truly at. I'm not too concerned if it is off by a few percentage points. At a high level, it seems that my truck capable of doing slightly better than my 2008 Mustang GT with 4:10 gears that I was daily driving before (was getting about 18-19 mpg combined - measured at the pump). I'm really curious if it will stay that way, or if I start to get a heavier foot as time goes on once I get more used to driving the truck.

I'm very impressed with the pickup on the truck so far. I had to punch it to get ahead of a merging car yesterday on my way home from work, and it surprised me with how much acceleration it had from 60 when it downshifted. My Mustang (with the 4.6L V8) weighs about 2000 lbs less, and seat of the pants acceleration feel under power in the F150 was pretty similar.
