Your choice of oil filter and oil 6.2 liter
As the title states I would really welcome the members choice on this subject. Also if certain brands used in the past were not satisfactory in your opinion please include that in your response too.
Thank you for all the great advice and recommended product(s)!! |
I will take a stab at this highly covered subject, use a motorcraft filter and a oil meeting the Ford 930a spec.

I'd go to the 6.2L forum and you'll have plenty to read for days....

FYI the Motorcraft filters can be had for right around 56.00 for a case of 12 online. At work the fleet 6.2 trucks get the cheapest oil that carries the Ford spec, normally Citgo or WPP and they live plenty long and stay just as clean inside. It comes down to personal taste really but I wouldn't deviate from the Ford spec on the oil.

Mobil 1 5W30 and Motorcraft filter, all obtained at Wallyworld.
|
My first oil change, went with Royal Purple and Motorcraft Ford Racing filter. Plan on keeping it that way.

Whatever is on sale
I sold one with over 330K on it. They were all work miles with a pipe rack on top of it with tool boxes all the way down each side. Pulled a small trailer for most of those miles probably in the 2500# range loaded. Plenty of young boys driving it and raising hell I'm sure. I replaced plenty of bolt on stuff over the years, tensioner pulleys and starters, alternators and such.
Sold it to a guy that was going to keep using it for a work truck. I bought it new with 19 miles on it and changed the oil and filter every 5 k ish miles with whatever organic dino oil and filter combo deal that was on sale the day I walked into the store, probably never used the same stuff twice. I have a new 6.2 now that I haven't had the first oil change in yet, fortunately when I bought it the dealership threw in some services for me, I will let them do it from now on and whatever they use is what they use I suppose. Be hard for a Ford to argue with me over a warranty issue when I bought it from a Ford dealer and then had same said Ford dealer work on it. They said they would sell me ten more services for $380.00, probably take them up on it, not worth crawling under the thing for that. I don't manage a fleet or anything but I believe if you keep some fresh clean lube in there you will probably be all good or maybe I just got lucky with that one truck. |
Full synthetic and WIX filters. Plus a good bypass oil filter to filter down into the sub-micron range. Frantz or Amsoil etc.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...956d7c82be.jpg When I get new truck, there will be a Frantz going on it right away. |
Motorcraft filter and synthetic Motorcraft oil for first oil change at 500mi. Then all Amsoil .
|
I'm using Mobil 1 oil and filter in mine. Just recently switched the Tahoe to the Annual Protection to see how that does in that. Might put that in the F-250 once warranty is out.

[QUOTE=TCNashville;18497085]Motorcraft 5w-30 semi synthetic and Motorcraft oil filter all from Walmart.[/QUOI do the same. dont even look at the other brands
|
Our dealer uses a Motorcrsft filter and bulk Motorcraft 5W-30 semi-synthetic oil. When I change the oil, I use a Motorcraft filter and Mobil 1 Extended Performance full synthetic 5W-30 (both from local Walmart), which Mobil claims meets the Ford WSS-M2C946-B1 spec cited in the 2019 OM. My general understanding is that API SN and SN Plus oils are supposed to improve and extend catalytic converter performance and life. I’m also looking into Amazon’s “AmazonBasics” oil. I just ordered some 0W-20 full syn API SN+ for our 2015 Toyota Highlander. HTH, Jim / crewzer |

Check out "project farm" on utube, he does some great testing of many things, Amazon oil is one of them.
|
Amazon basics oil is WPP its the same oil sold at Walmart under the super tech name.

Interesting......Didn't know Amazon sold their own labeled brand of motor oil. Damn, they sell everything don't they. Seems reasonably priced for Full Synthetic but the current lead time might be an issue. Doesn't list the Ford spec at least on the site/label.
https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-...dp/B07C5FF8R5/ My theory is that Ford's Ford WSS-M2C946-B1 oil spec translates to 5W-30 "premium", semi- or full synthetic API SN Plus / ILSAC GF-5. Here's a handy li'l blurb about API SN Plus on page 425 in the 2019 OM: https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...beb6603146.jpg HTH, Jim / crewzer |
It's basically dexos 1 gen 2. I think the difference between the a spec and the b1 is lspi related
|
Did the first change at 1,000 miles using Mobil 1 5W-30 full syn with a K&N filter. Changed it again at 4,000 with Mobil 1 again. Only put on 5,000 in almost two years so cost isn't a real factor.

OEM oil filters @ $3.09 each from Amazon
|
Good price.
|
Any good oil and filter will do, changing it often enough is key. I don't believe in the extremely long drain intervals some oil brands say is okay...change it. Get the sludge and oil diluting things out of your engine. Worry less about the brand name itself.

Mobile 1 0/30 and Mobile 1 filter this winter. I’ll be going back to 5/30 next month. |

Just want to say Hi. I'm still enjoying Florida, for another couple weeks anyway. I agree with u about oils. Always change mine every 5K, good interval and easy to remember. My previous Diesel, 7.3, used only Delvac 15/40, but my Gas F350 I switched to Mobile 5000, mostly because I used it in my other vehicles and it is a proven oil. I have since gone back to the Motorcraft for the F350 and will stay with Motorcraft on my '19 F250. I will say, the '06 F350 calls for 5/20, which I never agreed with and switched to 5/30 after warranty was out. I use the Motorcraft filter, but would like a larger alternative, maybe twice the size?

I've often wondered if Ford warranty would ever enforce the every 6 months oil change schedule clause.

My plan is to do the first change at 5k, second at 10k. Then I switch to a quality synthetic and will change it every 10k from then on out. Been doing this on all my vehicles since 1977. |
