1960 f100 wheels/hubcaps

I just bought a 1960 f100 styleside shortbed that I am trying to keep/make as original as possible. I have been trying to find out what the original wheels/hubcaps looked like and have found several different answers that make me wonder which ones are correct. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out the original hubcaps? Also any other good references or places to purchase other original or replica parts for my f100? Thanks in advance.

It is my understanding that the dog dish style hubcaps first installed on Ford trucks in 1957 carried over all the way through the 1960 model year. All of these hubcaps were made of regular steel, painted an argent silver with the letters FORD embossed in the center. The FORD was painted a bright red from the factory and the inside of the hubcap was painted with a red oxide primer.

I have not been able to find reproductions of this style hubcap, although somebody out there may have a source. Since these hubcaps were made by Ford with standard carbon steel, they are very prone to rust out. Water accumulates in the inside of the rim and goes to work. The problem is even worse in States that apply salt to their roads in winter.

The above example shows where the rust starts and eventually can make the hubcap become a 2 piece model. Finding good candidates for restoration (no rust) was a challenge for me. Swap meets and eBay are a couple of places to start your search. Good ones without rust or other damage tend to be somewhat pricey. This has been my experience, but your mileage may vary.

Actually, I almost have enough parts left over to build another Fridge. I just have to get my hands on a bare frame, cab and bed. The rest is pretty much all there. Something will turn up. :-whud

WRT wheels and hubcaps for 1960 F100s, were hubcaps standard or optional for F100s or F100 custom cabs? Also, the operator had the option of selecting 15 inch or 16 inch wheels?

Thanks.

Doug
