How to remove SS interior door panel strip
I want to replace my interior door panels but also want to reuse the SS trim strips. How do I take them off in a manner where I don't damage them? Thanks.

What type of door panel are they on?? Lariat, Ranger, Ranger XLT? And what year of panels?
Some of the trim looks like stainless, but it is really plastic that is heat glued to the door panel. It can be removed, but it is a major pain, & will be destroyed. This is on 79 Lariat panels. If it is true stainless trim, there are small tabs bent over on the rear of the panel. Straighten out those tabs & the trim comes right off. |
77 F250 CS Ranger and they are Stainless Steel just like the body trim and drip rail trim. I haven't taken the panels off yet so I don't know they are clipped on or glued on.

Just as ScottScott said, the stainless have metal tabs on the back. Straighten them out and trim comes off easily.

X3 on straighten out the tab on the back side, CAREFULLY they can break like any metal piece that is bent to many times. And once the tab breaks off, you are left with 2 part epoxy to reattach the trim. But there is LOTS of tabs to bend.....
Use your old holes to make a where to drill pattern for the new holes. I am pretty sure I seen some vendor that offered reproduced trim pieces?? Can't locate it right now. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...7900a67a27.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...46ae6007e3.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...bb23c90f9d.jpg |
