Fuel injector o ring
I have a 1989 E350 7.3 l diesel. I am cleaning the fuel injectors. is there supposed to be an o-ring at the tip of the injector behind the copper washer? The part number on the tip is c a v 6 8 0 1 0 3 6. Thanks!

Just drop it in the hole and move it around with a screw driver if it doesn't fall flat, most of the time they do.
Be sure to clean any soot out of the holes to ensure a good seal. It's not easy but a pick, rag with a screwdriver and a shopvac reduced to a small hose are my go to. I think one guy on here uses a shotgun brush from a gun cleaning kit, not a bad idea. |
I've used bore brushes. You can get a nice kit at Harbor Freight on the cheap. You can also use hi-temp grease to make the copper washer stick to the injector so you can install them together.
