Is the Rapid Heat Supplemental Heater Really Standard in Some Places?

All of the literature states that the Rapid-Heat Supplemental Cab Heater (41A) is standard in AK, CO, IA, ID, ME, MI, MN, MT, ND, NH, NY, SD, VT, WI, and WY. I'm in CO and getting ready to order a 6.7 PSD and must have the heater.

When I was kicking tires about a year ago, I saw some window stickers for mostly 2018 and a few 2017 PSD trucks. Most had the option listed as present with no cost associated with it. A few window stickers had it with the $250 cost option listed. But, for the most part, it really looked like it was standard equipment. Just like maybe air conditioning was standard, but still itemized on the window sticker as a feature. In fact, a lot of the older posts featured people who lamented that the cold-weather states got something for free while the rest of the country didn't. Unfair.

Now, every window sticker I see (2019 models) lists the heater option with the $250 cost on the ledger of the window sticker. Something has changed about the way this shows up on the window sticker. It now no longer looks like it's standard equipment on these trucks. It definitely looks like every other optional piece of equipment, rather than standard equipment. $250 is $250. If I don't have to pay it, why would I? I can think of a zillion ways to spend $250. But, I must have the option!

So, which is it?
  1. I must manually order it when I build out my truck, just like any other option I want. If I don't order it, the truck will show up without it. $250. Cha-ching.
  2. I don't have to order it, it just gets added when the CO dealership places the order for a PSD delivered to CO. Ford automatically adds it to the build. $0.
  3. If I don't manually add it to the order, Ford's computer will add it to the build and add $250 to the price. Living in CO forces the addition of the option, but I pay for full price for it.
In the past, it looks like (2) was true. In 2019, it appears that it's either (1) or (3).

Thanks for the help.

I just ordered my truck. I live in CO, and I had to add it on. Still waiting to take delivery.

After reviewing a copy of the 2017 Super Duty ordering guide, it appears you are right for the 2017 and newer trucks.

Rapid-Heat Supplemental Cab Heater (standard
in AK, CO, IA, ID, ME, MI, MN, MT, ND, NH,
NY, SD, VT, WI and WY with 6.7L Power
StrokeŽ Diesel engine (99T) Optional in all
other states with 6.7L Power StrokeŽ Diesel
engine N/A w/572 Air Conditioning Delete)

When the dealer prints out the order, it should give a cost for the Supplmental Heater. Check for option 41A (may have changed as this is the 2017 option number). Also, heavy duty alternator is required. Option 67B from 2017 order guide

Dual Extra Heavy-Duty Alternator (req. 6.7L
Power StrokeŽ Diesel engine; total of 377
Amp; required w/41A Rapid-Heat Supplemental
Heater)

Larry,
Thanks for the reply. However, that text you quoted from 2017 is unchanged in the 2019 Super Duty Pickup Order Guide dated 03/02/2018. And, it's still option 41A. On paper, nothing has changed. In practice, in looking at the window stickers, something definitely has changed.

The dealer should be able to print you a list of the options as ordered. If he won't, tell him to find someone who can. Tell him he will be his truck to sell to someone else as it isn't what you asked him to order?

There will be a cost for the Dual Alternators (67B). That might be an indicator it is ordered or comes on the truck?

I'm in South Dakota. I have a 19 Lariat on order and I was charged $250 for Supplemental Heater and $100 for Block Heater.
