Brake Pedal P/N - Is This The Problem ND?

1979 Ford F-250 4WD with Manual Trans ( dual piston calipers) I was positive the boisterous was wrong- yanked it off, and it does have the long booster to pedal rid. Checked the brake pedal ( the one that was on here) and it is marked
D8TA-2455-TA and belowthat is stamped "Power Brake". The pedal itself is marked "Auto" and and "Tran" with GH below the auto. Is this somehow the wrong pedal? Also, the brake light switch angle is wrong - the switch will never turn off.

D9TZ-2455-A .. Brake Pedal - Use with Power Brakes without Speed Control / Marked: D8TA-2455-TA / Obsolete

1979 F100/350 & Bronco from serial number DJ0,001 (production date 11/1/78).

Note: The catalog says nothing about A/T .. The wide (for the pedal pad) power brake pedal was used with A/T beginning in 1973. The M/T brake pedal pad was the same as the clutch pedal pad.

Bill, thanks so much. So is there a P/N and if anyone has the manual transmission brake pedal?

The brake pedal / pad size is the same auto or standard in a dent side as far as I ever have seen. Not saying the braking assembly is the same but I don't see why it would be. I have never seen a dentside of any year with the small bumpside brake pedal.

You haven't seen very many...

D3TZ-2457-A .. Brake Pedal Pad - Use with A/T / 1973/79 F100/350 / 1975/79 Econoline / 1978/79 Bronco.

B7A-2457-A .. Brake and Clutch Pedal Pad ~ 3 1/4" wide / 1961/66 F100/250 2WD / 1966 F100 4WD / 1967/79 F100/350 // Myriad 1957/70's Passenger Cars.

On the 1961/72's listed above, the brake pedal pad with A/T is the same as the clutch pedal pad. The brake pedal pad used 1973/79 with A/T was wider.

Some 1976/79's also used an A/T brake pedal pad with a bezel (D6TZ-2457-A pad / D6TZ-2A487-A bezel), this was part of the 'luxury decor group' or whatever the hell Ford called it back then.

btw: The reason the OP asked this brake pedal question...

1973/79 F100/350: There were TWENTY TWO different brake pedals, NINETEEN different P/B boosters, SEVENTEEN different master cylinders, SEVEN different clutch pedals, I kid you not!

You have to match the pedal with the master cylinder & booster, otherwise...

1968/72 F100/350: ONE brake and ONE clutch pedal. 1967 F100/350 ONE brake & ONE clutch pedals are 1967 only.

yea mine says D8TA 2455 TA FOMOCO POWER BRAKE

NumberDummy 01-21-2019 03:30 PM

^ That's D8TA not T8TA ^

Two possible M/T brake pedals with Power Brakes without Speed Control used in 1979. What are the last 6 digits of your '79's VIN?

lafermedavid 01-21-2019 06:44 PM

D8TA correct Bill

Yea, I know that all too well, one size won't fit all when it come to pedals and the frame work under the dash, master cylinders, boosters too. The brake switch mount was a new one to me though, never knew it could be different too but why should anything be any exception....

1978/79's use a different brake (stop) light switch than 1973/77, and there are two different types: With or without Speed Control.

And, 1975/77 F150/350's with a 460 and Speed Control use a different switch than other 1973/77's.

The idiots at FoMoCo went bonkers with the 1973/79's, using 22 different brake pedals, 8 different steering wheels, 7 different clutch pedals, 6 different T/S switches, 6 different horn pads and etc, etc, etc.

Some 1976/79 F100/150 2WD's came with Dana 44 rear axles.

1978/79 F100/150 2WD 300/302 & E100/250 300/302/351W were available w/an optional "weak sister" 4 speed overdrive originally designed for mid-sized cars.

Bill, I cant even begin to explain in the correct terms what the solution to mine was, but basically the brake pedal is NOT mounted on the clutch shaft that acts as the brake pedal hanger as illustrated in every Ford drawing I have seen. The brake pedal goes through a different hole - higher and aft of the clutch mounting hole in the pedal support assembly. It uses a big bolt, a spacer/bushing that the brake pedal swings back on, the two nylon bushings, and a lock nut to hold it in place. When I mounted the brake pedal in that location, everything lined up perfectly - booster mounting rod, and stop light switch position. In looking at it, I do not believe this was a modification - the holes are precision drilled and placed where you would have had to completely disassemble everything to add them, the hardware looks OE, and again, it is a one owner truck (my business partner) who cant recall any kind of such monkey business happening or needing to be done on this truck.

So is it possible the trucks built after Nov. 78 that are dual piston caliper, MT, with PB, and without Speed Control did in fact use the "wide" auto trans looking brake pedal?

1977/79: Two pics. In the upper pic at the lower left is the A/T brake pedal set up.

Lower pic: With a M/T, the brake pedal rides on the shaft that is part of the clutch pedal.

Compatibility list?

So has anyone put together a chart or list showing the compatibility of these 22 pedals, 19 boosters, and 17 master cylinders? If a fella has the wrong components already, how can he to figure out what goes with what?

lined up with D8TA2455 TA FOMOCO Power Brake
I just had to go through this in ordering hydro boost set up from hydrabrake,,,,,,,,They wanted me to mock up old booster with installed peddles and send picks. The 6 degree offset booster lined up perfect with the 79 peddles ,,,,,,,

Diggydad 06-12-2020 11:42 AM
