02 e250 5.4l temp gauge pegged idiot oil/temp light

Started my van up to get heat, walked inside for 10 min and the temp gauge was far right. The idiot light of oil and overheat was red in the far left of dash.

Didn't seem low on fluid at all. Started and in 3 min back pegged after turning on 2 days later.

No service engine code popped up on dash.

There's a problem with the instrument cluster wiring----you''ll need to pull the IC out of the dash and check the wiring connectors leading into it. There should be three connectors--sometimes the foil traces on the flexible PCB loose contact.

Most likely this is a ground issue though, nothing too serious.

BTW I own three E-Series, one each 2000, 2003 and a 2005 which has the CAN-bus network which is very different from the 04's and earlier.

Are you sure the engine isn't getting too hot, or is possibly low on coolant?

Naturally that's a distinct possibility too but as I read the OP it seems the temp gauge is pegged and the oi light is illuminated which I failed to consider since my '03 E250 has had the IC changed to a '99 F-Series for the tachometer.

Either way Sully certainly needs to check coolant level and flow.

Sorry for jumping in with possible bum info. :o
