I feel your pain and have no doubt it's just part of the procedure but at the same time can only dream of being as far along . Great work .

Since you're running A/C I'm assuming you're not going to use the Magic Air vent pipe that goes in this hole. I would very highly recommend to seal that shut with a piece of sheet metal and sealer. That is a huge hole for water, dirt and debris to enter from your tire while driving. You can ask me how I know. It's one of those 45 year old stories one never forgets from their youth.

Thanks! yes, setbacks are a big part of it, but now I'm ready for a little smooth sailing. :)

That's exactly what I was thinking too, and I actually had every intention of using that as a cold air inlet, but I don't think it's really needed with the hood vent in tact.

06-28-2021 Update

So much has happened since my last update, sadly, it hasn't been all Mater stuff. Had to rebuild my bridge, a few other home projects, and a really fun trip to unearth a barn find! My wife fell in love with a 1947 Ford Super Deluxe 2 door sedan, and, well, we had to go see it. I have included those pics here fro all to see.

In this update, you'll see my solution for my brake reservoir, my continued use of Evap-O-Rust, and how I managed to incorporate the turn signal lights into the old grille lights. It is actually starting to look like a truck again, but just barely.

The new list. What you will take note of is that I completely ignored this list for the most part and started in on the front facia tins.... ahhhh lists... soooo effecteve.

Great progress, even if the foreman is having issues with the budget!

That '47 looks clean. What are your plans for it? Does it have a flattie V8 in it? More pics please!

Hi Jim, thanks, and yes, my little shop foreman keeps me in line for sure! As for the 1947, it's a one owner, all original with 51,000 mile on the odometer, and my plan is to get it running and leave it as true to stock as possible. It does have the original flat head V8 to boot! The interior is near mint condition for a car that age, with the typical headliner and carpets being in bad shape, but the seats, dash and trim are in amazing condition. I do plan on repainting this car, as the old lacquer paint is checking so badly that it's pulling all the paint off right down to the bare metal, I'll take some more pics this weekend, it's a really cool car!

08/23/2021 Update

With the weather still quite hot outside, it's tough to get a solid weekend's worth of progress accomplished inside what is essentially a giant 1200 Sq foot beer can. But I managed to really plow through the doors, which were very fiddly with the windows and all the trim, and what amounted to many years of the old man kicking the driver door shut for one reason or another. I wanted to try and put the truck together using little, to no filler, but the driver door required some, so I worked the metal as best I could to keep it as minimal as possible.

This update documents the doors mostly, as they are now living comfortably on the cab again, and if needed, the truck could be left outside without getting the carpets wet.

What I used in this update was a stud gun welder for the first time. I would love to hear any tips or tricks on how to really put it to use, as I certainly could use a good in-service.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...764cb5f3dd.jpg
Let's get these doors rolling.

inside of the doors were thoroughly cleaned and clear coated to preserve exactly as they were the last time the old farmer saw it.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...ee73c263be.jpg
The old farmer definitely left his mark on this door, as there were noticeable boot marks on it, and was caved inward in a sort of X pattern as seen by the bare metal outlining its inward angles.

New door seals get installed.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...c3de337ba6.jpg
These are the clips you get with the new window seal kit. Step 1... open and count them. Step 2, smash them flat with the biggest hammer you can find. Step 3... re-use your old ones.
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...7b0d734128.jpg
Make sure to save these, they fit. The new ones in the kit....don't.

The list shrinks... on to the hood next!

Love the progress. I see you put AC in it - probably saw it in an earlier post but I forget things these days. I live in Florida and wouldn't own anything new or old that doesn't have AC. It's so easy to retrofit these days.

Great color, that was one of Ford's best IMO. Keep it up!

PS, really looking forward to the build thread on the '47. Please link to it when it gets going.

Putting AC in this little truck was essential here in Tennessee too, it get's very hot here for a solid 6 months of the year! and yes, my wife is patiently awaiting the start of that project too lol. I really need to get 'Ol Mater finished. :)

Probably not feasible for limited use but this is a very handy addition for your spotter when doing longer creases .

Where would one find such a cool tool? I like the concept behind it.... would have worked perfect on my door.

10-17-2021 Update

It's been another long journey working on the hood. First let me say that it would have been much easier to replace the hood, especially since the damage from the old farmer was quite extensive. There was a mix of old repairs he had performed, along with very stretched and dented metal along the center body line, but this truck for me is more about keeping as much of the old metal on it, along with using very little filler, if any at all. I did have to repair the usual metal rot were the under hood structure meets the sides of the hood. As far the dents and old metal repair from the old man, I left them alone and painted right over them. At the end of the day, I really want to keep as much of the original truck together as possible, even if it's just a great idea to me.

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...8e262321a1.jpg
Lots of dimpled dent repair from the old farmer. you'll still be able to see it once it's painted.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...55ce002c46.jpg

reinforcing each of the front corners to prevent future damage
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...5af12adbe1.jpg
Both sides of the hood where the latch plate bolted in was cracked into the nose of the hood.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...c6e8bd2ab8.jpg
The nose of the hood was punched in a good inch. Again, replacing the hood probably would have been easier, and look nicer in the end, but I never intended this to be a show truck. I like knowing most of the metal it came with it still together.

Thanks Abe, this was something I was very nervous about doing, it's so easy to grind the metal down thin and burn through it. :)
