superduty bed bolts
 

So I found a body shop near me had about 50 truck beds for super duty's. So I went there and asked them if they had those super duty bolts laying around and they hooked me up with 8 torx bed bolts. Now I need to get the captured nut J clips. Went to the local Ford dealer and they had only 1. I can get more but figured I'd get the 1 and check it out to make sure it fits everywhere. Seems like it will. It's not threaded and I've seen people mention they tapped theirs because they are hard to remove once you use the bolts to self tap I'm assuming. I know these bolts are 14mm but I don't know the pitch cause my pitch gauge doesn't have a match. I'm guessing its a 14mm x 2.0mm. can anyone verify? By the way the part number for the nut if anyone is looking, is W708770 S436.

I had no idea the nuts were not threaded. I purchased a used set and they were already threaded. Maybe just do this...........

The bolts are threaded. The nuts are not.

Metric thread/pitch gauges are pretty cheap @ Harbor Freight. Alternatively, take a bolt with you to a supply store and verify by checking with different nuts; I use this trick all the time.

Since it's 14mm, I would also assume it's 2.0.

So you're using nuts instead of clips? I believe the S-dutys came with a clip that needs to be shortened to use it with the dentside frame.

No I got the superduty J-clip. It has an untapped nut in it, which I assume the bolt will self tap. But I have read they are difficult to remove, so I'm wanting to tap it. I took it to Fastenall. Guy told me it's a 14mm with 13 pitch.... that made no sense to me as it should be all metric. I know it isn't 1.5 or 1.25 which are tap sizes I have seen for 14mm but my thread gauge doesn't have a 2.0 so I figured I would ask. I saw someone posted that they used modern F-150 bolts and it has a smaller bolt and clip that doesnt need to be threaded. The cheapest way to go at this point for me is to buy the j clips with nut as I got all the superduty bolts for free. but the headache is just about to outweigh the savings.

That's very strange that the j-clips are self-tapping. I agree with your approach to tap them, but find it very strange that fastenal said it has a "13" for a pitch... IIRC, There's no 13 (metric or SAE) on my thread pitch measuring tools...

If you follow the link, there's no 13 anywhere on the chart lol. Doesn't mean Ford didn't do it, but just saying... it's very odd.
