Frame Swap that looks good
Looks good, at least what I can see of it !
I wonder what kind of frame mods he had to do? the pictures look like he did this back in the 70's but its a 97 Ford 3/4 frame so it couldn't have been that long ago. maybe pics were taken with a polaroid and then they sat in a drawer for 15 years getting "aged" :) Anyway, I think the truck looks pretty good! https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...9fd02e6408.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...78c0c09bf1.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...c482f5cc07.jpg https://kpr.craigslist.org/cto/d/lon...788684537.html |
Yes, the clearance and stance for a long bed is better than a lot we have seen.
If the drivetrain is functional, the engine still useable and the fenders, cab and bed are still as solid as the picture sort of show, then the price isn't bad either. I'm sure it needs plenty of finishing touches though...does anyone ever finish a swap?? |
Seller says the engine is in pieces, so I'm guessing it's non-op. No telling if it was ever finished or how much hackery was done to get it to where it is now. It is local to me if anyone was really seriously interested in it.
"1952 Ford Truck Cab with 1949 8 foot bed on 1997 Ford 3/4 ton 4x4 frame, rear ends manual tranny and transfter hydrolic clutch power brakes Bell housing and frame mounts fit 460. 460 motor is disassembled." |
ha ha ha - you are right - won't know how well assembled until seen in person up close. But the wheelbase centering looks like a good fit.
From Merriam-Webster: hackery noun hack·ery \ˈhakərē\ plural -es Definition of hackery India : a bullock cart We've seen some frame swaps that makes this term a compliment. |
I agree, I think it looks good.
There's some things that are just better off not getting too close to.... ...but, all outward appearances look good Bobby |

Here's one I saw on Facebook Marketplace tonight. A 55 on a 1980 Blazer frame. And it looks like it's finished!

Here's another one I saw on Facebook Marketplace tonight. A 56 on a 1976 F250 Highboy frame. It looks good. Maybe because it is a flatbed and the rear wheel placement is not as important.
Only $21,900 https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...3f8f7d2f8a.jpg |

I think doing a frame swap for a 4x4 is a bit easier. As long as the wheelbase is correct you have a lot more flexibility on track width. Its OK to have the tires out past the fenders a bit.
Also, especially for the older trucks (48-52) the F2 and larger trucks have the larger wheel openings in the fenders and work well with big nobby tires. |
