No parking brake
I have a new to me 2000 F-350 dually. The previous owner stated that he drove 50 miles with the parking brake engaged and it hasn't held since. The rear pads look good.
Where do I start??? |
There’s dozens of videos on YouTube. Probably need to be rebuilt and if the light doesn’t illuminate replace the switch in the pedal. |
I'd clean the switch with silicone spray before replacing it. Usually it's just dirty.
But it sounds like the shoes just need adjusting.... https://youtu.be/iZ5f6YeCgZo You can do it with the wheel on there still btw. |
The rear PADS look good, or the rear SHOES look good? The PADS don't have anything to do with e-brake. The SHOES hold the e-brake. Did you just use the words interchangeably even though they aren't, or did you check the wrong part?

.
glazed .... greatly reduces braking ability. as does overheated brake shoe/pad material 50 miles.. if not glazed.. they were overheated.. replace.. its a simple system... that or they are badly out of adjustment.. but I hoped you already checked that. |
No I didn't check adjustment
No, I didn't use the words interchably My brother mentioned shoes , I pulled the wheels and only saw pads. I'll look at the youtube stuff, but I didn't see shoes or an adjustment. As you can tell this is too modern of a vehicle for me!! |
A video is worth 10,000 words. Now I know what to look for - Thanx

Parking brake wires
Not sure if this is the place to post this but since the original question was about the parking brake I thought I would try. I'm installing an after market stereo and have to hook a wire to the parking brake wire. I found the wire the only problem is there are two wires instead of one. They are black and brown. Which should I hook to? Would the black be the ground and the brown the power? Why would their need to be a power and ground?

Why would a radio have to be hooked up to the parking brake? The switch on the PB, illuminates the light on the dash. |

1- check instructions and make sure that hookup is actually needed, some have it as an option but if you don’t hook it up things work just fine 2- if it has to be hooked up, most will just ground it out to metal and then they can use the features all the time 3- if you really want to hook it up, I’d like to add that the parking brake switch in fords is notorious for corroding and not sensing it. For instance, with my parking brake on my light almost never illuminates. Sure you can clean up the contacts like I did on my last mountaineer, but again I’d look for another route than actually using the parking brake wire 4- I have no idea which wire you’d want to use at the switch, but a simple test light can solve your issue. |
