68 f100 3 on tree really hard to shift
Truck has sat for 9 months "ya im bad". Started ok but shifter is really hard to gut into gear..Any gear.
It was really sloppy when i parked. Wanted to swap it to my 71 but now dont know whats wrong. I did manage to get into 1st and reverse but i feel im gonna snap shifter doing so. |
First check the bushings and connections at the column and at the transmission. Try to see where the slop is coming from. When I first got my truck, a PO had used the wrong clips at the transmission. This caused a lot of play. If those are OK, then what I would try first is with the parking brake on, in the engine compartment, try moving the shift arms that stick out of the column. Are they hard to move? On my '66 with the transmission in neutral, I can move one arm through its range and then the other. If it is still hard to move, disconnect the linkages either at the column or at the transmission. Then try moving the selector and shifting the transmission by hand.

If the engine is running it sounds like your clutch isn't releasing enough.
