F600 1978 Battery Box

The battery box on my 1978 F600 has rusted out, I'm wondering if folks have found that the battery boxes from pickups of the same years match up (saw them available in the LMC truck catalogue) or what others have done on maybe relocating the battery and what has worked best? I'm not tied to having it under the hood, and it might be easier to just have it in a battery box off the frame especially if I put a electric dump on it.

Thanks
Erik

Gas or Cat diesel? If gas, there are two different trays, as it depends on the battery size.

55 amp battery: 10 25/32" long x 8 13/16" high x 6 27/32" wide. C7TZ-10732-D .. Battery Tray.

70 amp battery: 12 17/32" long x 8 13/16" high x 6 27/32" wide. C7TZ-10732-E .. Battery Tray.

95 amp battery uses the same tray as 70 amp battery. It's 13 17/32" long x 9 9/32" high x 6 27/32" wide.

I'll wait to see which tray you need before listing the myriad applications and the availability.

Gas is the one I need (361FT engine in it)

Would you also know if all the New Process 435 PTO's are the same or if they were different when the 435 was used in a different brand? Found some NOS ones on ebay that they say were for Dodge, but I can' see why they shouldn't work.

Thanks so much!

Erik

Measure the length of the tray, because there was more than just one battery. I listed the specs in post #2.

PTO's were not supplied by FoMoCo, so there's no parts catalog reference.

It's the 13 17/32" long one
So 90 amp I'm guessing?

Go to a heavy truck parts place and get a frame mount battery box for group 31 batteries. They run about 90.00

Chelsea has archived the old numbers listed on that eBay unit, you'd have to call them about it
They no longer list pto's for a 435 in their new catalog
There are 8 different models of the 435 trans, you'll need the numbers off of the tag.
Some are Ford only, some are Dodge only and some fit both.
Muncie still list the 435 trans but list different ratio's depending on the app

Thanks Numberdummy! I'll drop them a line tomorrow on it! Thanks again!!!

Do you mean by tag the number casted into the side of the transmission? I looked for a 'tag' but don't know if it's lost to the sands of time or what but I didn't see it.

The number I found was C96381 on the side of the case above an "AM" is that what I should use when referencing it to Chelsea?
thanks
Erik

Should be a metal tag on the side of the trans case. Will have serial # and model#, model # should have 435 and 2 letters.
Example: 435DL

Talked to them they don't have it or the other one either anymore (all sold out). Has anyone had any luck taking one of the ones that is still available from like LMC Trucks for the 72-79 pick ups and using those?

Can you tell from the manual whether a C7TZ-10732-D would bolt up instead of the 70 amp tray or do you have to use one or the other?

You cannot use a battery tray for a 55 amp battery in place of the tray for a 70/95 amp battery, because it's not long enough.

55 amp tray is 10 25/32" long .. 70/95 amp tray is 12 17/32" long.

So basically the mounting holes won't line up even though both were options? Thanks for the clarification, helps immensely in knowing which parts are worth my while
