60 F-250 Brake Line Size
I have a 1960 F-250, 2WD, 6 cylinder 223 ci, 4sp manual transmission, and Dana rear axle. It's also got the 8 bolt rims/hubs and an 8 ft styleside box. It starts and runs fine only it doesn't stop. All the brake fluid seems to have drained out somewhere. Not seeing it under the wheels. Based on my visual inspection, I think it is the rear brake hose. I have a replacement but where it connects to the hard line is so corroded, I can't get them apart. It looks like I'll have to cut and replace it, too. I see there are 2 possible sizes: 1/4" and 3/16". I have a MPBrakes power booster and pump to install that I bought back in 2004, too, but want to make sure my lines and hoses are good first.
What brake lines are you all using to re-plumb these trucks with? Thanks in advance. |
I plumbed everything in 3/16”. Can’t remember what OE was...there is no benefit to going with the 1/4” unless you need the larger size for the fittings that come with the line, but you can typically buy a fitting assortment for the 3/16” anyway. |
I had to re-plumb all of mine as well; I used 5/16"

Thanks guys. A roll is 25 feet so, yeah, probably will end up doing more than 1 line. Recommendations on a flaring tool?
Byrd.Dog, did you mean to say 5/16" or 3/16"? |
